Switching calls

How do I switch to an incoming call without losing the call I'm on? Is there some way to put the first call on hold while you answer the second?

I found this confusing at first also. While experimenting . . . noticed in the upper-left corner of the screen [when held vertically] an icon called [something like] "manage calls". Don't have it in front of me at the moment.

Anyway, click this icon when there is an incoming call . . . it will toggle between the two calls.

It can be done. Tried it myself yesterday:

-The wrong way-
1. Select "Phone"
2. Dial person 1
3. Select "Add call"
4. Dial person 2's phone number and click green phone icon to send

-Correct Way-
1. Select "Phone"
2. Dial person 1
3. Select "Add call"
4. Select the green phone icon first, then dial person 2's phone number
5. Press Merge call button.

I don't have it in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that when you get a new call, you can just pull the phone away from your ear and select to answer the incoming call. This automatically puts the original call on hold. But this is where the Droid gets a bit hinky... the manage calls usability is not 100%. If you hit end on the new call, it ends both calls. And there is no way to tell just by looking at the screen which call you're connected to. In theory, you can answer the new call, talk until done, then hit manage calls and go back to the first call. But like I said, with no way to actually end the new call and no way to tell for sure that you're only talking to 1 person at a time, it can be a bit confusing.

Need help with this too.. I notice if I hang up and it ends both calls..I get an "uknown caller" calling back..the original call I was in..not sure if that's how its supposed to work..

I just tried to use Manage Calls button and it does nothing. I have to press End on the second call and wait for the phone to ring back for the first call.

Oh god, me too. I hate how I can't hang up on only the call I'm on, or see who I'm talking to. It's hugely annoying for me since it was something my dumb phone did very well.

Basically, if another call comes in, I have to say good bye to whoever I'm talking to, or ignore them. And it gets especially annoying if I've gone to someone's voice mail and they're calling me back before I've finished the message. I can only hang up on the incoming call and finish my voice mail, hang up on both of them, or leave them a super long and useless voice mail.

I was hoping that somebody on here had figured it out since Verizon tech support wasn't very informative.

You can add me to the list of people trying to figure out this "second incoming call" problem. It's pretty amazing to me that such a basic function is such a mystery. I'm gonna hit the Verizon store tomorrow to see if they can help. I'll post back if they have anything useful to say.

I'm having the same problem. For such a sophisticated phone, you would think simple things like this wouldn't be a problem. It needs a "send" and an "end" button... then you could just hit "send" to swap out calls. It's really confusing. and I'm still having trouble with the HI Yahoo as well!!!

OK... I kind of figured it out. While you're on a call, and you get another call, just unlock it (or whatever it is you do when someone is calling you), then to go back... click on "MANAGE CALL"... and it swaps you back to the first call. At least that's what's worked for me.

I'm having trouble ignoring a call when I'm already on the phone. Sometimes when I'm on a call and I see an incoming second call, I just want to ignore it but anytime I touch something I end up taking the new call. How can I ignore it and send it right to voice mail? Thanks in advance for your help!
