task killer?

ok so ive had my droid since christmas and my dad recently got the EVO 4G. We have both been using advanced task killer to close apps. Whenever we open it up there are abunch of apps that we havent even touched in a week open. I was just wondering why these random apps are opening on their own and what is your favorite task killer. Is this problem just the app or is it the phone. Thanks.
