Terrible Battery Life on 4.4.2

So ever since I got the 4.4.2 update about a week ago my battery life has gotten progressively worse. I've attached a picture to demonstrate that. I'm not sure what to do about this. Some people suggested a factory reboot but I don't want to lose everything on my phone or go through the hassle of backing all of it up. Please help. Thanks

I have experienced the opposite, seems to last longer. First thing, unless you have since the update, do a one minute battery pull. Failing that, I'd suggest that some feature got turned on that is sucking up more power, or you have an app that is not reacting well to the update and is causing Android to run more in response to requests. If the battery pull does not do it, turn off features you don't use such as NFC, SBeam, Bluetooth, air view, etc. Failing that, try removing any unneeded apps, or any that seem to be behaving differently. Doing an FDR will probably clear up any issue, but is highly disruptive, and when you reload your apps you may well be in the same boat.

On my wife's phone we also noticed the opposite, she is having great battery life now. I am actually upset that she has the update on her S4 and it still hasn't been released for my Note 3.

This indicates that the update to KitKat did not install correctly...or a previous update did not install correctly. I recommend backing up ALL your data...Then use either your carriers restore software...or Kies 3 from samsung to reflash your phone.

Additionally, I haven't made an actual phone call on this charge. Why is the phone app taking so much battery?

Every time after I charge it says that the Phone app is taking up about 15% of the battery when I haven't made a call in the days. It doesn't make any sense

You keep asking what to do, but not responding to suggestions. Have you tried anything suggested?

You seem to have ran into a bug. At this point, a factory reset is warranted and would most likely solve your battery drain issue. This was a major update and it's common practice to factory reset after a major update, just to make sure the whole thing goes smoothly otherwise you hit bumps such as the one you're currently going through.

I tried pulling the battery, didn't help. Like I said in my initial post I'd like to avoid the factory reboot, but if I have to then doors anybody have a suggestion for a good method of backing my phone up? I backed up my SD card and reset it about a month ago and it took almost two hours, I can only imagine how long it will take with my phone considering it contains more information.

Unless someone knows a better way than just backing it up to my computer, than I'm not really sure it's worth the hassle.

I don't have a Galaxy, but I find my Moto-G has excellent battery life, even when I'm responding to SMS, texts or calls.

Alright I restored it but the OS is still taking up about 1/4 of the battery life which is far beyond what it was before the update. Battery life seems just as bad as it was before
