Similar issue. Could this be problems with speed of writing to the SD card? How fast is the fastest rating to write? I heard that 2 was the highest rating which really isn't fast enough for video, yet that is what comes stock.I really wish video was better with the phone. WHEN working the video is amazing, but in the middle of my videos it will break up and artifact and totally RUIN my video I have NOT had 1 video that turned out good FML.-
Actually, I'm pretty shocked how lousy the picture is - no offense. I have the same issue. For a 5MP camera that has a full color pallete, why is there noticeable blotching and dithering? Is it the software saving the picture after taking it? Look at the area under the sign and above the windows - why is there all that blotchiness? It SUCKS.I took a pic for buzz yeterday and I actually was shocked how well it turned out, in low light even:
Reg cam, reg software on droid

I hate to say this but my old 3MP iPhone and my brother's BB take better pictures than this. I tried the 5X ZOOM software and my results were even worse, with noticeable blotchies in all the pictures. There is a lot of detail in the pictures from 5MP but the color and reproduction of the area looks like crap... seriously.
Beautiful car. That picture has good, even outdoor lighting and still looks mediocre in certain places. Blow up the picture a little and not condensed resolution like it is on screen. You'll see bad stuff there - take a look just as it is on the rear tire. Either you have a really poor paint job after an accident or it looks like a JPEG that was saved at a lower than optimal quality setting and is "splotchy." It looks like a mediocre paint job while I am guessing it is just a reflection. It's why I don't know if it is the camera or that the jpeg conversion of the camera's raw shot just sucks.I took this pic of my car with new rims with my Droid, looks pretty good to me.
The physical camera isn't great, and the stock software downright sucks.
However, go to the Market and download Vignette. I've tried a bunch of camera apps, and Vignette is by far the best. It's something like 2.60 USD, and well worth it. If you change the settings to 3.1 MP, you'll get some amazing results.
I new that camera was "less than ideal" when I bought my Droid. I think it is the weakest part of the phone. That said, I still am VERY happy with the Droid

It's a cameraphone. It takes better pics than any other cameraphone I've had. I'm not expecting anything beyond mediocre pics at best because, again, it's a cameraphone. There's a reason I have a digital camera...

It was thinking it will get it's suckers aka customers to buy into the "comprehensive testing" and get you to pay an upgrade fee and get another 2 year contract very soon after getting your first Droid.I'm not sure what Verizon was thinking coming out with this camera, I bet when Droid 2.0 ever comes out this will be one of the first things replace and or fixed. I don't think there is enough software updates in the World to fix the camera on the Droid now.
