The camera sucks

WHO CARES ABOUT THE CAMERA!!!!! I dont know about any of you but the camera is a function I rarely use. Who's trying to do photo shoots with a camera phone? Take the pros in your left hand the cons in your right......there are a dozen more PROS than there are CONS. Get over it...its just a cell phone camera.

Oh I see... since YOU hardly use it none of us should care about it. Gosh had I known this earlier I wouldn't have even wasted my time. Thanks for setting all of us that do use and care about the camera straight.

LISTEN UP FOLKS... caring about the camera quality is WRONG. Jokool doesn't use or care about it therefore you should all just move along.

I'll be honest, the camera won't force me to stop using the phone, but I do expect the camera to be more useful than most other camera phones. And some people might have bought the phone with the camera being one of the most important features. Just because you didn't feel the camera was important for you doesn't mean everyone else should feel the same.

True indeed but on the other side, I recommend whoever doesnt like the camera to take the phone back. Whether its software or hardware, take it back if its THAT bad...if you're like me, you're satisfied.....if the camera is so bad that you cant use it...I would take it back.

I am not a fanboy for sure but I keep my opinions toned down as I need help in other areas and dont want people not to help.

But I feel the camera is weak but again action mode helped to get me something usable for the meantime so thanks 640

Ok so I care. Does that make it more important. I don't think so . Everyone is entitled to thier opinion. Now this isn't a personal conversation and doesn't have to be portrayed as one. So please think before you post.

Ahhh yes... the perennial, "I dun got caught wif my draws down so I'll say something totally irrelevant leaving everyone confused with WTF I even mean" answer.

Serious though... just because you don't find something important to discuss doesn't mean some of us agree. If you don't like what people are talking about, move to the next topic eh?

On a side note for those that actually use the camera like ME... I went to Cancun this past week and someone slipped my camera a mickey because it took some impressive shots. I will post some of them later.

Attached are sample shots I took with the Droid in Mexico. These are most acceptable if not somewhat impressive taken at 3mp. Motorola surely slipped a SW update when they fixed the focus issue.

Wow!.. very nice shots!... I have absolutely no complaints for shots taken in full sunlight.. that makes me think the other is software.. .and if not, the phone itself has overwhelming pros to counteract what may be a non perfect camera.

A few things we "do" know.....
1. the quality if the lens is great.... very sharp crisp clear images.. you can see rocks, people and tiny leaves in the distance.. no complaints there.

2. The color reproduction is very accurate to true life. While maybe the pics are not as bright and glamorous as some cameras that "overdo" the shot to make it look better, the Droid takes a picture that looks very real to being there. I guess if you want to doctor them up and make them look better than real life, thats what photoshop is for!

3. While I would like more features and hope they bring those in to... the hardware seems to be great and solid. In fact the whole camera "feels" like a nice piece of hardware that does not skimp on crappy plasticy little parts.. even the screen is glass.

A Camera "is" a high priority with me simply because I have my phone-camera everywhere I go to catch those one in a lifetime kodak moments. If I"m going to Cancun or vacation, I will bring my Sony 10mp.
I realize I'm pressing my luck to expect my Droid to be my vacation camera if I want stellar shots.

I never expect a phone camera to take near as good a shots as the equivalent mp size in a device made just for pics.

I therefore have no expectations the Droid 5mp can keep up with a sony 5mp SLR.. .but I would hope it could meet or surpass a 2mp.

The LG Dare took great shots and it was a 3mp..."my last phone" the best I've seen in a phone camera.. if the Droid gets the low lighting situation ironed out, it will beat the LG Dare just by virtue of having a better lens and mp.

One thing for sure... without diverting the intent of this thread.... since I'm praising the LG Dare for its camera.. lets be fair... the MotoDroid gets "way" better reception both for regular phone calls as well as 3g than the Dare ever thought about getting.
I can receive and send calls inside the large building I work in far better than I could before with my Dare.... but thats another subject.

These are far better then initial sunlight shots I took when I first got the phone so I am inclined to believe they slipped in an update.

I've seen documentaries on the Mayans and Chichen Itza so I knew quite a bit about it before I went.

HOWEVER... when I walked up and saw it in person, the hair on my arms stood up. I was in total and utter AWE! Even while I type this I am getting goosebumps. It is one of those things you just have to see to feel.

Our guide was really into it and even offered his own hypotheses on why some things were done the way they were which made it that much better.

We stayed at the Riu Caribe and had such a fantastic time we might go back in May if we can afford it.

Put your focus on "infinity"... anything past about 2-3 feet looks great on infinity anyway... and use the button on your screen in the lower right instead of the pushbutton on your camera and the pics will be nearly instantaneous when you hit the button on the screen....
