The camera sucks

Can't blame anyone for not liking the stock camera. I guess all we can hope for is a developer to deliver an excellent app with all the features to enhance the droid.

the only way the camera app is really going to get any better is if someone figures out how to deliver the images as RAW. otherwise, everything is within the limitations of the lens and hardware.

+1. the camera apps don't actually alter the quality of the images... may speed things up but the actual image itself is untouched.

Lucky for me I'm happy with the camera as it's take great pictures for me :)

the most you're going to get out of these other apps is better functionality. if they're taking pictures faster, they might be snapping the shutter faster, thus increasing ISO and graininess/noise.

if you do download another app, make sure you can control those settings too.

I've tried the other apps and while I gained shooting speed, there is without question a degradation of quality of certain shots. Maybe tomorrow I'll do another comparison test, not that anyone really pays attention to them.

I haven't had an issue with the quality it all. Honestly, every issue that everyone has posted on this thread, and other threads, I've fortunately haven't had any of those issues. My DROID > everyone's. lol

Wait, I take that back. For some reason when I forward emails, the pictures aren't sent. : /

Unfortunately, I'm not liking this camera OR the video recorder. I had a Treo and the quality of it was fairly bad (lool) but at least it was consistent in its use and I was able to work with its "badness" lool...

But this camera??? Some times it snaps a pic, most times, it doesn't. One slight move of my phone and somehow the phone goes back to the home page... I'm still trying to figure out why it chooses to do that on its own... And when I do depress the button for the camera, you can physical hear this dragging sound as if the phone doesn't want to switch me to the camera ... like it's saying, "oh nooo, I don't wanna take pictures!!"

It's fairly humorous until it keeps doing that and its the same with video recording. I tend to go back to my ancient old Treo 650 to make my little video journals because I know at least on that old decrepit phone, it works!!!

My issues appear to be a cross between software AND hardware. I'd love to get it fixed but when I go to the Verizon store, of course it's on its best behavior and I can't reproduce the problem... veeeery frustrating!

i don't think anyone has complained about the phone going to the home screen. sounds liek you're covering the buttons or accidentally hitting them somehow.

When you forward, put your finger on the text.. not the pic and it will send picture and all.... at least thats how it works with handcent.

Please post some of your pics so we can see the quality, I am just curious.

My camera works fantastic. It did even before the update.
Looks ok to me seeing as both my arm and the horses head were moving at the time

Now your talkin.... make sure you post your camera settings too.....

The Droid definitely is no slouch when there is plenty of light.

That would be the case except I hold my phone by the edges when I take a snap shot. I don't use the virtual button, I use the physical shutter button at the top. LOL... really it shifts on its own.

It's a weird thing but perhaps there's physically something wrong with my phone because if I move too much there's this... (I don't know how to describe it better but) movement of something INSIDE the phone like that shifts the phone's activities...

This pic was taken this morning driving to work... I pulled over.. shot through my windshield with no flash on infinite focus... all else on auto and default on 2M size.

I bumped the contrast and color saturation up just a tad in picsay pro.....
Picsay pro downsized it to 1028 X 768 and photobucket scaled it to 600 X 450... Makes a nice background! *Note thumbnail is 1028 X 768

I do the same, that was at 5m setting and he was pulling his head back.

So that picture was taken one handed with actual camera button of a moving target....I dont see the problem.

Out of the box my phone was set to Macro had switch that.

That was before the update as well.
