The Complete Jellybean Thread

Nope. Instead of doing two steps (flashing the ICS SBF then applying the Jelly Bean update) you only have to perform one step (flashing the Jelly Bean SBF.)

Download the SBF on your computer, then follow the instructions here.

okay and 1 quick question like I said I did a factory reset 3 days prior so if I don't do a factory reset again and just flash jelly bean would install correctly?

Anyone had problems where you personalized ringtones get forgotten? I have to redo my notification and ringtone sounds about every other day.

has anyone tried using mbm's 'sbf_flash' script to either flash ICS or jellybean on a linux machine? when the jellybean OTA failed for me, I wanted to flash the original ICS (the jellybean sbf wasn't available then), but I couldn't get 'sbf_flash' to work. I tried giving it the zipped file, the unzipped directory name and the xml file within the unzipped directory, and it didn't like any of those; gives an error like

Index[37]: Unexpected EOF
Usage: sbf_flash <filename>

all the instructions I found on google refer to an sbf file, and usually reference a filename that ends in sbf, but that's not what I've found for ICS or jellybean. fortunately, one of the ICS files I downloaded (I think it was hashcodes) had a script in it that would use 'moto-fastboot' to flash, so I think I'm good, but I'm curious as to whether anyone has been able to use 'sbf_flash'.

it should work as long as the phone is in fastboot. ive done it in windows in the cmd. im familiar with linux as well and i believe it should work cuz they haven't changed anything there. heck im using rsd from 2011 and it works with jb

Ok, for those having the problem with wi-fi connecting to some routers, thanks to the generosity of an user from XDA forum, here's the solution!
You must copy & paste the attached wpa_supplicant file (unzip it first!) in /system/bin, replacing the original file.
To do this, you must of course be root. You can use for example File Manager from Market.

I tried, and now I can perfectly connect to my router again! :happy3:

Can someone give me a quick Cliffnotes version of whats supposed to be better abut JB than ICS?
Are there new features that im not seeing?

I stupidly allowed the update to run and so far the update seems terrible. My phone is a mess.
-the shift key issue. wtf? how can verizon push this with such a major known issue? i did everything form the other thread (uninstall Chrome update, reboot, check input, etc) and the issue keeps resurfacing at random
-auto correct/auto punctuate keeps turning back on by itself, even though I keep switching it off
-now the volume rocker button is sporadic. sometimes from vibrate mode I click up once and it turns the volume up to full, sometimes it randomly jumps 2-3 levels with 1 click.
-camera still sucks. there is tons a of lag between pushing the shutter button and capturing the image
-now the gallery is a pain to use. now the newer images are to the left and older ones to the right... completely unintuitive and opposite of any other gallery app ive ever used.
-keyboard back lighting still does not work correctly (shuts off in darkness and stays on in lighted areas)
-still no convenient way to quickly create a folder
-cannot rearrange bookmark icons in the browser
-during a call, often times the screen still turns off after any key press on the dial pad.
-still no way to clear voicemail notification without listening to every single message.

so is there anything that this update DID fix, or anything that it actually improved upon?
i can't seem to find anything
