its just an app go look in the android market and you will see many apps that are apple related, i say wipe apple of the face of the earth lol

So Budweiser ought to put out a brochure for Miller every once in a while so people can keep up with what's going on?

exactly. i think people are just blinded by the hate for apple and forgetting common sense. apple has no reason or need to have anything android related in their app store, and you can't blame them for that.

its like microsoft including a link to "get a macbook pro" on your desktop with every new computer purchase...is that censorship?

Nah, I don't hate apple and I understand you guys point perfectly. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it, that's the beauty of human opinion :). Plus I'm not a business major, I just like information any way I can get it.

well yeah that's my point haha...apple has done nothing wrong, and it's absolutely not censorship in anyway. apple may have some questionable business practices, but this is just common sense on their part

its ok at the end of the day i hate microsoft for its crappy os and i hate apple cause the hold they have and how expensive it is so with that said no one in this earth will ever be happy and yet war between which one is the best continues...tune in next time when linux tries to take over the market next year lol

So is Android lacking common sense when it offers Apple News apps and the like?

Good business? Probably, sort of. But Budweiser running Miller ads is a poor example. Apple/IPhone is a communications platform for people to get the content they want. It is a form of censorship, albeit pretty minor. It's the sort of thing that can really hurt a company, but in this case the vast majority of IPhone users won't care (just as Android users mostly wouldn't care if Google blocked Apple news).

My guess is Jobs would justify the decision on one or two areas:
1) Being IPhone, the users really have no need for Android news hence a useless app that doesn't belong in the market (a stretch, I know).
2) To the extent this magazine runs stories that are defamatory and/or factually inaccurate regarding Apple they have a legit reason to block this. Of course, that standard should apply to ALL news apps and clearly doesn't.

Mostly it strikes me as an overreaction. It's no real threat to Apple (and Engadget and other news services have plenty of Android related stories), but is kind of a comical thing to see that really does illustrate the fear and concern Apple has with the Android threat. Plus, you have to remember the Apple shtick is that they've "optimized" the user experience - wouldn't want the lemmings to start thinking some other options might suit them better.

"common sense" may not have been the best way for me to word it. i honestly see nothing wrong it, same way i wouldn't have a problem with Apple having android apps in their store. my point was, it's the prerogative of the company to decide/ban/disallow what goes in their product. i was responding to the OP's and others argument in this thread that this is or is bordering on censorship. it's not. free speech and censorship have nothing to do with it. apple has decided they dont want android apps in their store, most probably because it's a competitor, and there's nothing wrong with that. it doesn't mean they're scared and frightened of the almighty power of ANDROID!!! it's just normal business sense

it isn't censorship in any way. freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to say anything you want, wherever you want, especially not in a private setting.

....was the reason for disapproval the fact that it was an Android devoted app? I mean, it could of had a naked woman holding a Droid as the front cover of the e-magazine and this was the reason.

I don't get why people are so eager to jump on the "hate Apple" bandwagon.

And if Apple is so anti-Google/Android, why do they have tons of podcasts on the topic of Android and even iTunesU classes on developing for Android?

For clarification: I'm not an Apple fanboy. So please don't use this post to flame me for being one. I enjoy some of their products over competitors, while I do not enjoy some of their other products. I have a Droid because I think it is better than an iPhone. I have a MacBook Pro because I think it is better than any other HP/Dell/etc laptop. I also have a nice gaming rig PC, because Macs suck for gaming.

Exactly the same for me, I have a MBP and a gaming rig, and I like my droid better for flexiblity, but the ease of use for the iPhone is undeniable as well. There are still in the minority its hard to have a serious face when calling them tyrannical...

Gotcha and thanks for the clarification. And hey, they might be a little scared :icon_wink:

Do you ever think Steve Jobs and crew pull these little stunts on purpose? It draws interest back to Apple whether you hate them or love them, they are always on your mind. I don't see anything wrong with this banning, in fact you could say it's quite brilliant marketing. Like I have said a million times before, people get too fired up anytime anything Apple shows up in the news.

yeah and they don't realize that they're acting the same way that they claim apple "fanboys" are...

I disagree. Blocking content is a form of censorship and it really can't be spun any other way unless there is legit concern for it doing harm to the user or hardware. Just because there may be a business interest/reason for doing so doesn't mean it still isn't censorship.

Let's make a more accurate comparison... Would you consider it censorship if Apple's browser blocked access to Android forums? How about if they blocked access to Fox News? The user buys the phone to access content on the web - what right does Apple have to say what content the user can access? Some censorship, such as porn and malicious apps, is within reason and has merit, but where is the harm justifying this action?

It's a much smaller scale, but not entirely dissimilar to that old Netscape anti-trust lawsuit against MS's Internet Explorer. By your logic, that's not censorship and MS was fully within their right to do so, but what did the courts have to say about that?
