The last straw.

This is interesting. A while ago I set up comcast to forwar

to gmail. Well like everything else I tried with this phone it did not do it and I forgot about it. Today I exchanged my phone and viola! it works. So this now begs the question, is it the phone? If it is the phone, should I try to setup google email sync with my other accounts and see if they start to come to my phone? I am thinking yes, any thoughts. This is the first time I have figured something out on my own with this little bastard.

Wow!, thank you, that very nice of you to do this.

The attachment issue is a big one as I get blueprints all the time that need to be forwarded on to the right people. THe Site 5 is pop3, and the yahoo is a imap in and smtp out. Do you think I should remove the individual accounts before i set up google? or leave them all on atone time? or remove the individuals after I set up google? Thanks again for your help.

I just uninstalled google calendar sync and reinstalled it

everything has just synced up on the calendar. I hope it stays this way. glad that one is currently working.

i would remove the individual accounts from your droid (they don't work the way that you want them to anyways).

Do you get blueprints on your yahoo account? If so, I would recommend that you upgrade that account (it's really not that expensive) so that gmail can retrieve emails from that service as well. Free yahoo accounts don't allow POP3 access (which is why you had to set it up as IMAP on your phone initially).

PS. No problem! I'm on a plane on the way back to atlanta, so I had some free time :)

PPS. I found this on the support page. I hope it works via the gmail app on the DROID as well.

"Once your account has been added successfully, you'll have the option of setting it as a custom From address. This allows you to compose messages in Gmail, but have them appear to be sent from your other email account. Click Yes to set up a custom From address."

Btw, for google calendar sync, I ALWAYS have to stop and restart that bad boy. I think it has something to do with Outlook not shutting down completely at times (gotta kill outlook with the task manager). Can't blame that one on google though!

Or just leave outlook running ALL THE TIME.

I'm a late reader in all this, so sorry if I am back tracking on some of this.

First off, guys... While most of us are hiding behind handles, try and not be jerks to each other on the forums. My post original to Moparham was sincere that if he felt he was not being served by the phone, sorry to hear that. I even stressed my post is not a 'love it or leave it.' post.

Second, I stated I felt the phone isn't quite 100% business oriented phone quite yet. When I think of business, I think more along the lines of Exchange Server which the Corporate E-mail app points to for the most part, and possibly other Mail Servers like Groupwise or Lotus Notes most companies use for internal mail with Contact/Calendaring support. Not all companies are using systems as one person has pointed out, but for many, they still rely on Exchange, Lotus Notes or Groupwise and not on Google as their internal mail server, even my company does.

The problems Mopaham is having is similar to other people who want certain things. Unfortunately, certain setups will require extra costs that some were expecting out of the box at times, so note, for some, it is going to be a sore spot to know that they will need 'more' to get more. Some might not want their mail forwarded through G-mail or some such. Please accept that and not make your viewpoint seem like it is 'the best way' out there.

Remember, the Droid is a nice phone, but it is also not the epitomy or the end all phone and just offer help to show maybe there is another way, don't be a jerk in showing it.

I don't think it is people need to 'take it easy' on the software, but more of understanding that in some cases, the newer version will not always be the end all.

Another thing to note, the Motorola Razr was, in fact, not 100% flawless when it first came out as well. Most 1st gen phones will have quirks, and the Motorola Droid is still a 1st Gen Phone for its type for Motorola.

The iPhone itself also had a lot of launch issues as well, and that was refined over time.

With that said, there is bound to be improvements later, and again, not a 'love it or leave it.' post or as the Droid Commercial says, don't settle for compromise, but just remember you can't always judge a phone too harshly and it will improve, just as the iPhone and the Razr did.

I spent 20 minutes reading this thread and found it very interesting.

There seems to be an argument that the Droid isn't for everyone because apps are sometimes needed or the corporate email server isn't set up properly to make the Droid work out of the chute.

I'll have to agree with that. The Droid isn't for everyone. It's akin to an iPhone without training wheels. You can get your self into some deep caca if you aren't careful. But, that's exactly what makes it interesting.

I have been using the Droid for almost a month now and I did have to go to using Touchdown not because the Exchange support doesn't work out of the box, but because we needed some features that the Droid's Exchange client doesn't easily support. (Such as moving items from the Inbox to other folders.)

And, at first Touchdown didn't forward attachments. But they fixed it and now it does.

We had similar problems with users that used the iPhone as an Exchange client.

The result is that there's no nirvana and, unfortunately, too many people purchase a phone based upon marketing hype and believe what they've heard on TV or read in an ad. So, if you go into it with your eyes open you'll find that the Droid is a wonderful platform that will support your needs if you spend the time to find out how.

I removed all my email accounts from the email icon and set them all up

on google. Google claims they have finished downloading and will be sent to me as they arrive. I sent out several test emails and NOTHING. I now have NO EMAIL. I am getting a little burned out on all of this. I F-ing tried.
Am I a candidate for TOUCHDOWN. I am not aware of any of my email using microsoft exchange. Does this mean that I would get no benefit from Touchdown? I will buy it right now if it can help me. It looks like touchdown is only for exchange. If I get the Iphone, I think I will want mobile me as this works with all of my email servers and not only for exchange. Yes? Thanks.
p.s. I tried to put yahoo back on my stand alone email and it will not let me complete the entry as it says my password or id is incorrect when I know it is. Yipee!

As someone said in an earlier post ---> ACTony: (For those having Yahoo problems.)

"I'm considering going over to Yahoo Mail Plus for $20/yr to get rid of this problem. I'm not so sure that Yahoo will be in a hurry to 'fix' this issue. They supply free email with unlimited storage because of the ads on the web version or the $20/yr for the paid version. If they let you use a fully functional, problem free email service with out either of the above they'll be loosing money."
