I know this will get plenty of laughs and scoffs at my expense but I like to officially post this so I can come back when the season is over to confirm my prediction. First, I do not make foolish predictions all the time and I only say things that I firmly believe and often, I am correct. In 2004, I predicted the Pistons to win the NBA Championships before the playoffs started and was laughed at and told "they are good but not there yet". So, here goes......
Detroit Lions will be in the Super Bowl this year and will win their first Championship in over 50 years. Yes, I am a Lions fan but I say this based off of many things watching the NFL this year.
*Detroit has played strong all year and their losses have all come against playoff caliber teams.....including 4 losses to some of the best in the league....SF, ATL, GB, NO, and Chicago (before forte and cutler were out).
*SF and ATL games went down to the wire and one play made the difference.
*Detroit shutdown Rogers and the GB offense in the first half and the game didn't get out of hand until Suh acted like an ass and was tossed from the game.
*Detroit played sloppy with stupid penalties and turnovers early against Chicago that put them in a big hole. If the Lions play smart football, they do not lose and are a force to be recognized.
* Against NO, they played well but were missing Suh and Fairly and their secondary was in shambles (they had a second string receiver filling in for injured DVD)
And the most telling sorry........
* Detroit has only lost to some of the best in the league while playing the second hardest schedule in the league. GB, NO, SF, each had schedules that rank between 23Rd and 27th. In fact, the only current playoff teams with schedules ranking in the top 10 are Denver (7th) and Pitt (10th).
Bottom line is that even though the Lions played the second hardest schedule in the NFL, they are one 4th down stand against SF, and one drive against ATL from being 11-3 and in contention with GB for the to spot in the NFC.
If Detroit plays smart and up to their potential, they will run the playoffs and be the 2012 NFL Champs.
