The Official DF Droid 4 Pre-Release Thread

RAZR is $199 on the same pricing sheet .
Rezound is now $199 as well )unlocked boot loader , removable battery) .

Just makes the D4 sound a little over priced at the moment .

It seems over priced to us only because we know that the D4 and Razr is basically the same phone. But probably according to Verizon, the D4 is new and because it hasn't been released yet and global capabillities (I think).

Do you have a link to that pricing sheet? I couldn't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.
ETA: I found it on Droid Life
ETA: You'll see that the Razr MAXX is $299. Probably because, again, to Verizon it's new and a better battery. But really that's it.
And I'm confused... ;)

There are two different versions of the razr being sold. The cheaper one comes with out the 16gb micro SD card and the more expensive one still comes with it I believe.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using DroidForums

See you found the sheet .
Pretty perplexing isn't it ?
$50 bucks less you can have a White RAZR , or a Rezound with Beats Audio , both touted as a wonderful phone .
Now if VZW did a BOGO with the D4 like it did with the D3 , then that would jump start the D4 into the market for sure .

The D4 is unfortunately not global capable at the moment. It has a GSM radio but no GSM SIM slot.

I don't think we know how many slots it has at this time...I haven't seen the cover offf...the "tester" didn't seem to know what was going on with it and went silent a while back. If u look at all the links I posted it def shows the radios r there, doesn't mention the sims. If u have any links with any more info about the sim cards please let us know

It looks like the D2 cum D2G déjà vu "all over again". Only this time without the name change or the 20% faster processor.

Is it clear in the vzw statement whether the D4s it locks down GSM on will be unlocked? Or will it just start selling an unlocked 'world phone' version sometime in Q2?

Official photos are now posted.
But still no one knows, "what's behind the green door."

you know i had a thought today....i think we should be able to order phones like a laptop or car... pick you own options type deal... it couldnt be that hard in the future... and like those manufacturers pay more for vanilla os. how great would it be to pair a nexus with a keyboard any screen we wanted GLOBAL capabilities and a nfc chip. then companies like moto would not have to try and release better phones or 20 a year just different internals. maybe even a upgrade program were u send it in to get upgrades!!!!
oh and i almost forgot a unlocked bootloader at a small cost....i would pay for it just to have it.... especially if the phone was going to last me for a while

Sounds great! Especially if I could get a discount to delete standard stuff I don't want, like GPS and BT.

HTC is giving Moto a run for the money lately. Some pretty good handsets. Now if it could just figure out HDMI...

.

" Just makes the D4 sound" like a phone that missed its moment.

well it really isnt the droid 2 and droid 2 global all over again the droid 2 had no global capabilities. i say that because you will not need to buy a new phone to go global. i believe they have to make some modifications to the network before it can be sent global. they certainly are not going to advertise global till they work it out.
I for one dont really care i live right near the canada border maybe go 3 or 4 times a year so i really wont use it.... i truly wonder with all the people whining about the global phone acess really actually intend on ever using it. it really isnt cheap or easy to use, you have to be very much in need of it to put forth the effort. i feel like sometimes people use things like that just to complain. they dont want it wont use it but it is a way to hate on motorola. i am not a fanboy just dont like a ton of negative stuff all the time. anyways i am sure it will go global just take time.

Here is the vzw statement from the DL link:

"The LTE phones work globally in over 40 countries that currently use CDMA technology. ... For the new LTE phones to provide global roaming voice and data in non-CDMA countries, we are working on a few network enhancements so we can provide customers with the best voice and data roaming experience. We anticipate this capability to be available this year, likely the first half of the year."

Vzw does not clearly say that "this capability" will "be available" on D4s sold before "the first half of the year."

If it is blaming "network enhancements" for the hold-up then the problem is not in the D4s. In English 'enhance' means it works now but its gonna work better. So it could release GSM 'as is' and, upgrade the network on the fly. Why is it not doing that?

Makes me wonder what else is hiding behind the lockdown -- and the back cover "green door".

yeah i am not overly worried about the global thing. i think it is safe to assume the droid 4 we get will have some global capabilities. like many have said this is going to take the place of blackberry at least thats what motorola hopes. so i would feel they will enable it and it is comming but only time will tell. I am sure some developer out there will figure out how to crack it eventually anyways. we will see.
I am not even that concerned about the boatloader or rooting. it would be nice but not necessary. the hotspot thing is cool but with the power of this thing, i could just as easily use it to do most things, or use that no root usb program. for longer trips i will just add it to my plan for the week (AKA disney ...no free wifi there).

Will the D4 have an LED indicator?
if you would have read through the last 285 posts and checked every link (lots of sarcasm in that line) you would have noticed my link for the droid 4 developer site here , and on the right column most the way down the page you would have seen "indicator light" and next to it tricolor light....so yes it does have.... next time please read all 30 pages before asking questions that would have taken you an hour to find lol...(i am in a sarcastic joking mode today lol)
on a side not that developer site is pretty good for most questions on the droid 4
