Tiered Data to go live!

According to inside sources at VZW the tiered data plans are poised to go live July 7th, 2011. Whats this mean to a majority of users, well if you dont purchase your 4G device prior to 07/07/11 you will be subject to the tier. Now for those early adopters we are safe and grandfathered in to our plans. So if youre thinking about a new LTE device and you're not sure as to wheather or not to go out and get one this could be your wake up call. As more details arrive on this new information will will be keeping you apprised of any changes that may occur.

So if you get a LTE phone now you're grandfathered in. But if you activate another phone afterwards you have to go tiered right?

Or is that only if you buy on contract?

They way i'm understanding it is that it will be for both 3G and 4G. He's most likely trying to point out if you want to be guaranteed unlimited 3G but more importantly the 4G you better get it now.

Very tempted to buy a Thunderbolt right now just to be grandfathered into the 4G.

But i have one question. Do the 3G and 4G phones use the same unlimited plan? So say if you have a 3G unlimited data do you already have 4G unlimited data? If there is a difference is there anyway I would be able to switch to the 4G side and just use my Droid X/ and X2 on 3G but still use the 4G plan just to be grandfathered in?

If you have activated a 4g device you will not have tiered data. Not sure if that changes when you upgrade or renew your contract.

Dang! My NE2 comes up on July 7th. I really didn't want to spend the money to upgrade early, especially if the Droid 3 really is coming out on the 6th or if I want to get a T-Bolt between now and then.

i'm actually thinking of going down to a tiered plan. i don't need unlimited internet. i go off wifi and barely use pandora/youtube on lte.

???

can someone link me to where verizon has said you will be grandfathered in.
i continue to see people state this but am having problems finding anything from verizon stating youll be grandfathered in.

It's what vzw has done before as well as others.

ok so its an assumption.
that they will do this?
and nothing in writing stating there will be grandfatherd in plans?

You are grandfathered in for 2 years b/c you have renewed your contract for 2 years. Your contract is your agreement that you pay this much for getting this much service.

I haven't seen any official verizon documents saying that people would be grandfathered in...so an assumption is correct. I find it very unlikely that verizon would change your plan right under you.

A couple a reasons I see unlimited data plan users being grandfathered in. There was a post on here for a $10 off an unlimited data plan for 1 year, just called in 2 weeks ago and got it. So if they go to tiered data, whey would they start a promotion that would go past the start of tier'd data. There was also a promotion like this for unlimited data for 9.99 a month but that was back in January. I highly doubt Verizon will strip us of our unlimited plan and remove our promotions that go with the unlimited data plan. And the fact that you are on a contract, once your contract is up i believe they will still offer you the unlimited data plan if you plan to renew.

Isn't there a clause in the contract that allows them to change the terms of the original agreement?
