Tiered Data to go live! Verizon

Status
Not open for further replies.
I need details. What are the pricing plans going to be? Will there be an unlimited tier?

Until I get more details, I don't care about yet another rumor. I know it's coming eventually, but I'm not going to panic and go on contract with the average phones they have available now just to get locked in to unlimited for $30 unless I know what my alternatives are.

This happens all the time. These threads pop up that get people all out of whack. Before I get all excited, I'd like to see some hard evidence of this stuff. I need official Verizon docs before I run out in a panic for a A LTE device. So I'm off to search. I'll post any further documents I come across!

Yeah, just another article predicting the end of unlimited plans, like dozens of other similar articles over the last 12+ months.

When you factor in paying retail vs. contract I'm not sure unlimited data is worth all that much - $20 extra a month will almost certainly put you in a tier with more data than most use.

I guess P3 doesn't have any weight when there aren't new moto leaks to leaks.

Isn't he known as the father of the leak or something like that?

2 things

1( this does say its from droid world. but i dont think those predictions from their have been all that accurate. and with the extension of the free hot spot until july 7th this really sees to be an assumption many of us had made so although this is stated as inside info it does seem convienent.

but

2) the reason i asked if this was offficial was for these 2 reasons.
a)when i was with att they raised prices. and i was given the choice to end the contract early or pay it.(stupidly i just payed it)
b)but with verizon it would be a easier thing for them to do since the only unlimited left is sprint which is really not an option for most people their coverage area is just not good for me or many others.
att and tmobile both have limited data. (yeah ignore tht huge truley unlimiteed on tmobiles site its a lie. after 5 -10 gigs ) they throttle you to .03mb pretty much useless for anything than email and very slow webpage loads if you dont time out.

i read somewhere that thye would announce these plans on the 26th so that does give time to decide before the 7th.

I dont believe even if you are grandfathered in now that if you change phones you will be able to keep it and there is just not a phone id want to commit another 2 years to at this time on verizon.
It will be interesting to see wht these plans are.
we know att 's is horrible, tmobile's does at least not shut off tottally but really is barely usable, sprint is unlimited but has poorest 4g and their 3g is pretty much horrible here.
the unoficial stufff ive seen looks like 5 and 10 gig limits on these new plans but not sure if that wsa for individual or these new family plans.
its just kind of annoying they advertise these phones with netflix and streaming audio and video than they place limits on data that make these really unusable.

what confuses me is that they say they have to do this to save their network but they have had 4g and free hotspot for 2 monhts and the network seems to still work.

To play devils advocate here for a bit.

LTE isn't nation wide yet. It hasn't even been out for a full year. So the usage it's getting now is no where near what it's getting in the future.

In addition how many people in LTE accessible places have an LTE device?

ok

ok welll i dont see that changing in the next 2 weeks?
hey i have an inside tip that after this tierd data goes into place verizon will at some point after offer a dual core 4g phone.
remember you heard it here first :)

Just to add more speculation, my two year is up on ......July 10th. I was an early adopter of the D1, I think about a week or so from the initial release. Doing the math, this means that there are a boatload of original D1 users out there that are due for an early July upgrade (new every two) who are like me, did not upgrade lines etc. to change the timeline.

If I were VZW, I would be looking pretty hard at getting a new enticing phone to the market right on that timeline, and if I were VZW I would also be thinking that it might be a good time to get folks like me off unlimited. I do not have numbers on exactly how many OG D1's were sold in that opening weekish, but if you look at the beginning of this forum and how rapidly this place took off in November of 09, methinks a boatload of folks are on a timeline similar to mine.

yes im sure this was highly planned to insure all those people that put android on the map get screwed. what a company(in their defense-no differenet than any other company)

Why do these threads keep popping up? And why are all the same questions in them every time?

FACT: data is a feature
FACT: features aren't part of the contract and therefore are subject to change
FACT: verizon WILL grandfather you in even though they don't have to. This is just how the mobile world works...unless you're apple.

Verizon wont change features under your nose, trust me, they like happy paying customers.

FACT: data is a feature and part of the contract. they can not change you to 2 gig limit when you are under contract for unlimited. but they can give you an option out of your contract or accept the change.
FACT: I havent seen anything from verizon that shows they are trying to keep their customers happy.
FACT: you do not know for a fact that verizon will grandfather in its an assumption. and is probably correct . but thats what we are talking about has anyone seen anything in writing stating this.
FACT: att did not grandfather in a price change. they did offer you to be able to terminate your contract since they were changing it but you could not keep the old proce when they changed it. (thins may have been when the cingular.att thing went through i dont remember) but this has happened.
FACT: since your number 1 fact is totally inaccurate. did you really need to post here. the reason the question of is the grandfatherd in writing from verizon is because i have seen things not grandfatherd in before and i have not seen anything from verizon stating you would be grandfatherd in and when i went to a verizon store they told me they would expect so but did not know. So the question persists. did verizon state in writing that you will be grandfatherd in or is this just an expectation.

My response why do people keep having to post in a thread they have no information on and try to make the people having a conversation look like they shouldnt be.

Actually YOU are the one who is wrong. Go ahead and read your contract and show me where features are listed as terms of the contract...I'll wait. I think you're probably assuming that since it comes in the printouts when you sign, that it must be part of the contract. Its not.

Also, your example of the att/Cingular merger is totally irrelevant. I'm talking about standard practice for these companies, not business mergers. If a company tanks and leaves their customers high and dry, did they go stab them in the back to make a Buck? No, they just died. Furthermore, old att WERE grandfathered. The problem came with upgrades. If an old art customer wanted to upgrade to a new cingular phone, they had to select a new CINGULAR plan. This is no different from what were talking about here, its a new contract so the old plans wont stay.

I state these facts because too many people on here are too lazy to simply read their contracts. I also speak from experience as a sales Rep. I've seen thousands of contracts, I know how they work.

I'm just telling it how it is. There will be grandfathering, period. People have zero reason to think otherwise.

Eagle,

I guess because I own my own business, I tend to view business decisions as less like a "screwing" and more like, well, a business decision. Granted a decision I made from day one with my business was no "surprises" for my customers in terms of dollars, which means that sometimes the bear eats me. So it is hard sometimes when contemplating exactly what VZW and the other carriers are really up to, as without the bigger picture in mind, sometimes it does look like I really do not matter.

And it did take me a while to swallow the fact that even though I go back with VZW to the very early days, this really means ziltch to them. definately not my business model, but it is theirs. Cool. They provide pretty decent coverage for me, even though I live work and play in pretty remote areas. I pay my bill, and they set the terms, I live with them. I have some options, but none are really better.

Given that they have the broadest range (geographic) of coverage, probably the fastest coverage and that they would like to have every single cell phone user on this continent on their network (:)), I fully expect them to do things to balance these goals whatever these tools from their side may be (tethering, throttling, tiers etc.). To not expect these changes would be pretty silly on my part.

Craig

Is it just me who gets annoyed with these types of threads? I mean jeez every other week we get a thread that has something to do with Verizon going to tiers. CAN WE STOP AN JUST WAIT FOR BIG RED TO ANNOUNCE IT THEMSELVES!!! I mean come on i'm tired of people worrying because Joe Schmo at some website heard from his great uncle Pete, whose wife is a big shot at VZW that tiers are going live soon. I think these tier conversations should be banned or deleted like app planet or other things of that nature.

Also they tend to lead to name calling an members being very rude to one another.
