Time Warner Cable SignatureHome Charlotte Area

Pardon my rant.

I am a SignatureHome customer since 8/18. I am having problems with all three services of this package. The digital phone number is recylced and I'm getting many unwanted calls (personal/marketing). All of my DVRs/Playback Boxes are blinking out (losing signal) momentarily every few minutes. Most IMPORTANTLY (and the only reason I signed up for SignatureHome) my Internet Down Load Speeds are 27 to 30 Mbps vs. the advertised 50. Tomorrow will be the third time I've had to take off of work to meet with a technician. SignatureHome Customer Service is commendable, but what use is Customer Service with technology that doesn't work. I cannot recommend SignatureHome to freinds, family or forum associates.

Are you testing downloads via wireless or a direct connection?

We have fios, and 35mb down. We can get that on a speed test if we're connected via the cable. But if we're wireless, we can only get 25mb down (give or take a few). When I discussed this with Verizon, they said the technology related to the router's (edit: wireless) hardware was limited and could only handle around 25 or so.

I'm testing on my desktop wired to the modem/router. Yeah, you'll never get full advertised speed, but several other subscribers in Charlotte get 48 - 49. I'm in the next county over, so maybe they're working the bugs out. TWC is assigning me a new phone number; hopefully it will cut down on the number of unwanted calls.

***DONT BE FOOLED BY 50mb CABLE DOWNLOADS!! ***

Keep it in perspective............I work for a large bank in Charlotte, and our total bandwidth to the internet it 20mb.

As TWC has previously advertised, you can get UP TO 12 mb on the current service I am on. In reality, you might only get 1 or 2 mb from any one provider as they don't want you hogging up all their bandwidth.

Indeed if you had have multiple downloads going at the same time, then you might hit close to 50mb speed as a burst rate, but doubt you can sustain it.

Keep in mind, unlike DSL, you are sharing a node or that 50mb with everyone down your street or even a few city blocks. When DSl advertises something like 6mb downstream, you would have a better chance of getting that published speed as you are the only one on that particular node.

How do I know all of this? I design TZ or Internet infrastructures and have done so for 15 years. Don't believe me, get ATT Advanced TV and TWC service, and compare for yourself!!

as for me, I am leaving TWC in a week or so and going back to basic ATT DSL Xtreme for $20 a month (for 12 mos) as I know what I am getting!

Internet is Blazing - Phone is good - TV SUCKS!!

I have just switched from AT&T UVerse to Signature Home and i have got to say that I am missing the whole home DVR that they offer in comparison to TWC. TWC has too many bugs and the software they are using is ancient. The product feels quirky and not well thought out.

This is my only complaint on the Signature Home Service.

I want to directly address the comments from the last post. I also work at a large bank in Charlotte and am quite knowledgeable of the network architecture. I doubt seriously that you have just one 20 mb stream. You have several 45 MB T3 lines and I have that for just one of my small environments so that is a load of crap. The one 45 mb stream is also much different than what you and I have at home. That is up and downstream. You have several hundred user channels too.

Anyway, you can believe the advertised speeds but this also must be addressed. You can get to these speeds if the other end of your connection has the capability to transmit on these speeds. For instance, Microsoft and AMD both have this ability and I can download an ISO from either site at a stable 6.14 - 6.3 mbps. This is pretty near the advertised 50 mb line speed. I am also getting an accurate measurement of the line by going to Speedtest.net and testing against the Frederick, MD server. This server also has the capability to transmit at 50 mbps.

Most times when you see slow speeds, it won't be because you are "sharing" your connection or TWC is giving you a poor product. Quite the contrary. It will be because not all Network Environments are equal so your connection can only be as good as the weakest link. Quite true of many things in life.
