unlimited data ending? reseller told me so

We're being sold this amazing technology, but all of a sudden we're being told we can't really use it to its full potential, quite disappointing.

Like being handed the keys to a Ferrari and being told go no faster than 25mph....

Well you can't really go any faster than 80 in a car capable of going 170+ so it's the same deal. You should probably complain to Ferrari now too.

If they would have told me that I would have told them if that's the case I'd be glad to switch to sprint or a prepaid service.

Not quite the same deal unless when you bought the car there were no speed limits and then the next day you find out Ferrari pushed to have speed limits.

June 28th was the end of unlimited data. Also when you upgrade they charge a $30 fee.

As mentioned earlier, that's only for new subscribers or those who renew contracts by getting a discounted new phone through Verizon.
If you keep your existing phone or buy them outright new or used (ebay, craitslist, swappa, etc.) without a new 2 year contract, then you can just add them to your current unlimited data contract and you will get to keep unlimited data.

That is, of course, until Verizon changes that and kicks everyone off unlimited data. But as of right now, and probably for at least the next couple years, that's how it will be.

This October will be 4 years for me on Verizon. I switched from T-Mobile for a number of reasons...to get 3G in our area, to be on Verizon's network, and to get unlimited data. I had been with T-Mobile for a long time, and I had a great plan. Our plan had a ton of minutes and it was cheap because we just stuck with them and the plan cost always stayed the same, even though they had stopped offering our specific plan and we even switched phones a couple times. I think we were paying $30 a month for two phones, 800 minutes, texting, etc...but no data as we were on dumb phones at the time.
Those days are long gone.

Not to beat a dead horse, but most people i know who have high end sports cars go much faster then 80 hehe :-)

I don't think VZW is going to take away unlimited from people that have it. It's not a huge number at this point, 5M tops. I do think they will make it increasingly difficult to stay with the plan, though. As someone usually on wifi, I rarely go over 1 gig a month. But I do have to watch my minutes and occasionally go over, so I'm seriously considering the new plans with unlimited voice for $40 a month.

They've already taken away the subsidy, so if you're not a data hog when you need a new phone paying retail makes it a pretty tough choice. I imagine VoLTE will be another carrot dangled in the future. And if push comes to shove, VZW might terminate the really heavy users that tether against their TOS (but they currently don't appear to have a full-proof way of determining that).

A few milion users on unlimited, especially if they only average a few gigs of data a month, just isn't going to be much of a concern. By taking away your subsidy they're already saving like $15 a month more on you.

If you use an upgrade and sign a new 2-year contract, you'll have to give up your unlimited data plan and go on a tiered plan. As long as you don't sign a new contract, and buy phones off-contract from here on out (either new or used), you'll be able to keep your unlimited plan.
This is not true. I just renewed my contract and they offered me more unlimited stuff. As a matter of fact Verizon just came out and said people with legacy unlimited plans can go ahead and teather without buying the teathering contract. Of course I don't try and use my cell phone as my only Internet connection either so they view me as a good customer.

Not true either, they sent me an offer to keep my unlimited data and add unlimited tethering for 29.95 a month. I am completely unlimited and just signed a new two year contract. I do think they are being selective about who gets the offer.

People have been gettin hosed like that...I'm a light user and they flat out told me any upgrade at subsidy would cost me my unlimited data.

I don't know why they wanted to keep me but this is what I got:

Droid Razr Maxx 179.00
Unlimited Data
Unlimited teathering

Of course when they called me to try and lock me in I said no, going to Sprint with your data restrictions and then the offers started rolling in. I'll do the same in two years. For me it was worth while because I use my phone for Internet connection at my second home, but like I said they don't offer it to me in two years, I'm gone. I can't believe what some of you guys are paying for microscopic amounts of data. I would just say "see ya".

Its the coverage. Verizon's coverage is so far ahead of everyone else. Some people have no choice but to stay with Verizon. Fortunately, I don't have that restriction and will probably leave to a GSM carrier once my contract is up.

Yes I agree they have the best coverage, but it is sure not worth any price to me.

I love Verizon's coverage. It's why we switched from T-Mobile a couple years ago...and now the 4G is just a bonus.
HOWEVER...
if they still have these same stupid, overpriced, tiered plans that they now have and I can't for some reason keep my unlimited data...I'm looking into what else is out there. Hell will freeze over before I go with one of Verizon's tiered plans. I'm not a rich man. I just want good cell phone coverage. I can't afford to be spending $35 more per month for a plan that offers LESS data just because Verizon decided they wanted more money. Ridiculous.

Currently, my wife and I pay $105 per month (1 smartphone and 1 dumbppone and unlimited data)
On a capped 4gb plan, we would be paying $140 a month. (1 smartphone and 1 dumbphone)
Yes, we would get unlimited minutes and texting, but personally, that doesn't matter to us. We don't use a ton of minutes and usually stay under 600 minutes.

I certainly plan on sticking with my current plan as long as possible by either keeping my Rezound until it dies, or just getting a used phone or a new or refurbished one that is a year or two old. I'm not paying $600 for a brand new phone. I'm just not.

It's also annoying to see their commercials, talking about how much better their plans are now for us...like they are doing us some sort of favor or something.
Verizon can shove these tiered plans right up their ass. They have to be losing customers because of this.
I think the only folks their plans might appeal to are those with a bunch of devices all sharing data...but even then, your data is capped...and I'm sure 4 devices all pulling data would mean you need the most expensive plan. 4 smartphones on their 10gb plan is $260/mo...or $65 per person. Meh.

Yup been saying a while that unlimited will be gone June 28th 2014. That is when the last of the just renewed grandfathered unlimited contracts run out.

My renewal comes up before then, so I could get another 3rd party phone and slap it on and away we go.

I think they were trying to get a sale. I went to get a sim card for my thundebolt and these people kept trying to tell me that I don't need unlimited and to switch my plan. They started getting agitated when I refused to switch my plan. At one point the lady told me that verizon is going to end it anyways to just give in and switch.
This is a bunch of B.S right? Do these people get a commission on new plans?

If an 80yo woman (cougar) hits on me and says to just give in and hook up with her, I'm going to fight it tooth and nail. No way will i give in.

Same concept. If I don't have to switch plans now, I won't. Go make your money off the idiot after me.
