Yep, thats it its the same conference we found out about the changes to Google maps last night (among other things). So, if AT&T are last, that means the presentation is prolly just about to start now?

They already spoke and just talked about losing the iPhone and how they had other (unnamed) products in the pipeline for release soon that they felt would continue to grow their subscriber base. They didn't talk much about it...which means they are holding out for CES.

Wait, so is it absolutely confirmed now that the fruit phone is comming to Big Red next year? :icon_eek:

Bummer. Thought with all the Nexus S hoopla they'd give us something....

Technically it hasn't been confirmed that the iPhone is going to Verizon. But what AT&T said yesterday is that they confirmed that they are losing their exclusive contract at the beginning of 2011 - which is six months earlier than originally thought. Also - VZW's CEO has publically stated that they have been in talks with Apple about the iPhone. No other wireless carrier CEO's have stated that.

Put those two things together and you have the iPhone coming to VZW in January. I expect we will see an announcement very soon to this effect. Consequently - I think AT&T is shifting some of their focus back to blackberry and Android. You saw them have a special launch event when the Torch was released and I expect them to do something similar for the Olympus. AT&T will still most likely be getting the iPhone5 before VZW does - so with the Motorola Olympus and iPhone5 - they will be launching with some heavy hitting devices before VZW gets them even though they will eventually sell the same phones.

AT&T has the advantage in the long run even if VZW gets a short term boost with the iPhone this spring. Just my opinion.

I am just really glad they are going to launch the Motorola Olympus as a GSM/3G device and not force those who want it into a more expensive 4G data plan. Hopefully they launch it very soon.

So does this mean that Verizon also will launch the Olympus as 3g, or will it become LTE when it hits V's network?

It'll be LTE when it hits Verizon, that's probably part of the reason At&t is getting it first.

I don't understand at all people who want it to ship without LTE supprt.... "I don't want to pay more".....

Get Cricket or Boost or whatever if you "don't want to pay more". A lot of people want the best tech possible, not always the "cheapest". I mean look how many Android and iPhone users there are, if they all wanted cheaper they'd all be Nokia users.

Excuse me but that is a bit of an arrogant statement. Remember that LTE wont even be fully rolled out til 2013. I'm sure the people who don't have LTE coverage won't want to be forced to shell out for the extra cost when they can't even enjoy the benefits. That is not at all fair, yet it is already how Sprint works...I don't want Verizon to follow suit.

People like options. Not everyone wants to pay the higher data fees associated with LTE. And - even if you are in a market that has LTE - that doesn't guarantee you will be able to use it all the time. Sprint has their 4G market rolled out in San Antonio - but I know many people that can't use it all the time - despite a pretty dense coverage in the city.

For the next year or so - a fast high tech 3G device will be just as good in most cases than an LTE device if your area doesn't have full support.

But since you don't understand...then you will be glad to know that this phone will be 3G/GSM on AT&T and LTE on Verizon...so you have a choice!

Probably the same people that find reasons to return 10 handsets in a row when new options come out.

How is that arrogant? You can't have it both ways, you want the Ferrari of phones, but you want to run 87 octane in it...... It doesn't make sense.

I have to agree, I don't understand why people don't want it to have LTE. If you get a new 3G phone now I'm sure it will only be a matter of months before 4g is in your area (Technically it would be guarenteed, 2 yr contract, 2 yr until full 4g rollout) and you would be stuck with a phone that couldnt take advantage.
