[UPDATE]Motorola Olympus shows up on camera....again.

Yeah but you have to remember that the software wasn't optimized for dual core. Once the software has been optimized for it, I'm sure it'll be much faster. Apparently that's the reason the Nexus S had to be delayed. Gingerbread needed to be reworked for dual core. Last minute decision to upgrade to a dual core processor made them have to do the change.

jay speaks many truths here.

I just posted in another thread (Quad-Core in News section) that people may not be aware that Gingerbread will be optimized for the Dual-Core Tegra 2. The CEO of Nvidia has already commented on that. So these early videos of the LG Star are in no way an accurate portrayal of the Tegra 2 capabilities. The Star is running on 2.2 in those videos.

Here's the bit on Gingerbread dual-core optimization. Perhaps not true since Nexus S has dropped with single core?

Google maps...offline mode....

Me likes.

Yes...very nice. It removes one of the huge advantages that HTC had with the DINC/Desire HD. It will allow any high end Android device to cache maps - which will make the mapping software much easier and faster to use.

In other news:
I am looking forward to hearing what AT&T's executive has to say at the conference today.

Hopefully he will mention the Olympus.

If you look back at the previous page I was posting information as it came in during Andy Rubin's interview while he was demostrating the still yet to be released or even officially announced motorola tablet. This is what he said that got me all excited:

Andy Rubin while demonstrating the new Moto Tablet just said this:

7:39PM "So here we have Google Maps. It's not quite out yet. I have it in SF. I just did a search. I can zoom in. As I zoom in you see I have more detail... taking advantage of 3D processing power. This is a NVIDIA processor, a dual core 3D processor." Whoa, he just tilted into 3D view on the buildings.
7:39PM "So what we're showing off is some pretty cool performance. Again, about to launch. It'll be on cellphones in a matter of days."

I incorrectly read into that - that the dual core Nvidia processor was coming in a matter of days...but what he really meant was that the mapping software was coming in a matter of days.

Here is the list of speakers tomorrow:

D: Dive Into Mobile continues all day Tuesday, with speakers that include: Dan Hesse, President and CEO of Sprint Nextel; Mike Lazaridis, co-CEO of Research in Motion; Mike McCue, CEO of Flipboard; Joe Belfiore, Vice President of Windows Phone Program Management at Microsoft; Jon Rubinstein of Palm, now owned by Hewlett-Packard; Foursquare CEO and co-founder Dennis Crowley; Google Ad Products Management head Susan Wojcicki; AT&T Emerging Devices President Glenn Lurie; and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek.

On a sad note...VZW and HTC executives are not scheduled to speak...

It will be interesting to see if Glenn Lurie has anything to reveal for AT&T's network...especially since his part of the "emerging devices" group. Hopefully a hint or clue will be put out there for the Olympus.

The OS is tested and tweaked around the hardware.

Gingerbread is tweaked around the Nexus S hardware or the dual-core hardware (or both)?

Well we know it was designed to run on the Nexus S - but it is assumed that it will be tweaked to run on dual core going forward as well.

I haven't heard anything about an AT&T announcement today? Can't seem to find anything while searching either..? links?
