[Update] Verizon's New Family Data Plans Begin: It's Called the Share Everything Plan

I've had a promotional plan for my 5 unlimited lines and the new pricing structure will cost me over $100 more. No way.

So, I called VZW last night and as reported, the CSR's have no/little idea what's going on. Really? VZW announces a new pricing structure and their front-line people can't speak to it?

To the credit of the CSR, she promised to call me back at the end of the week.

My position is simple: I am happy to pay what I pay now for the service I have now. To pay $100 more for what will be less service is out of the question. There's no chance that I will stay with VZW. If all carriers move to the same type of plan, me and my family will have to learn to live with simpler devices that cost less to use.

But, if all carriers try to move to this type of plan, I would hope that our Government would question what'll look like tacit collusion on the part of the carriers.

So just to make sure I understood everything. Right now I pay 140 after taxes for 1 smart phone w/ unlimited data on my droid x2 and have 2 dumb phones. we only use 700 minutes but we have unlimited texting.

I would upgrade to the sg3 but have no upgrade.....

so in the near future if i want to upgrade to a 4g phone I would be paying
40+30+30 (just to have the phones) + another 70 for 4gb of data? so it would be 170 a month? this is stupid.... I got a smart phone mainly to have pandora/8tracks now I cant even use it if i upgrade....

Also if i buy a off contract phone thats 4g, will I have to change my plan since my x2 is only 3g?

anyone think theyll let me upgrade a couple months early for the sg3?

With a family plan, the only time that you will "make out" where you are paying the same or a little less is if both conditions are met:

1. You have either the 1400 minute or higher voice plan, AND
2. Any smartphones you have are actually averaging 2 GB of data or less a month

If you have the base 700 minute family plan, or will need more than 2 GB per line, then you'll be paying more.

Yeah, I have the same promo. That is promo is the kicker. We have gotten spoiled with the $100 discount. If you read my earlier post, ignoring the discount we would actually be paying a little less per month (also ignoring that we would be giving up unlimited and would essentially be on a tiered plan). But when considering the discount, we are screwed.

Ok now that they released how corporate discounts work it gets even better for me. LOL

This is from a post I made yesterday guesstimating how they will do the discounts.

Current Plan:
NWT&T 700 - $90 - 20% off = $72
Three additional lines $29.97
Two unlimited data plans $29.99 each - 20% off main - $53.98
Insurance on three lines $20.35
Taxes and surcharges $13.82

Total - $191.12

Taking into consideration average past data use of 6GB total this would be the new plan. I don't know exactly how our 20% will play into the new plan structure so I will deduct it from one line and the who shared data plan price. But that could be way off.

Line access for 2 smart and two feature - 20% off one line $132
6GB data plan - 20% off - $64
Insurance on three lines $20.35
Taxes and surcharges $13.82

Total - $230.17

This is how it will actually be with the discount:

Line access for 2 smart and two feature - $140
6GB data plan - 20% off - $64
Insurance on three lines $20.35
Taxes and surcharges $13.82

Total - $238.17

For a grand total of $47.05 over my current bill. Add another $20 if we want to get my wife into a smartphone.

Where do I sign up????

Jseah:
All of the folks that got that pricing should keep in touch via this forum to compare notes as we transition to this new plan. If you've got 5 or more unlimited lines and VZW agreed to a deal with you, there's a fair chance that they will keep the price-point of that deal going forward. That's what I'd like to see.

In case anybody missed it, here's Verizon's Share Everything Calculator...

Share Everything Calculator - Verizon Wireless

I ran it on my plan and it said I should be paying $220 per month for what I pay $174.95 now. And with the "suggested" plan, I would be capped at 6GB, where now I have 2 unlimited phones on a 4-phone family plan. See below.

Simplify with Share Everything

The Share Everything Plan gives you Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text and shareable data that powers up to 10 devices. Answer a few short questions and we'll help you find the right option.

We Recommend

6GB
Shared Data
Unlimited Talk & Text
Monthly Access*
$220
Verizon Wireless data devices average between 1 and 2 GBs of data a month.
*Does not include taxes and surcharges

It looks like the "calculator" is offline... I wonder if they were getting too many people commenting "Um......my bill will go up by $50, I don't like this..."

EDIT: Nevermind, must have just been a small glitch in the Matrix, it's back up now.

Please keep us posted. I've had that promo on two smartphones since it was available in 2010. When I call up to pre-order our two GS3s, I am going to need major confirmation that this discount AND our unlimited will not be falling off. I don't want to go to Sprint, but I will if I have to.

I can't imagine that anyone at Verizon expected a $90 1GB plan would test well.

I think carriers like sprint, t-mobile, and non contract carriers love when verizon does that because that is when they see their influx of customers. Vzw right now had their customers hooked. Even with the extra upgrade fees and stuff we would have still stayed. If they made the plans better we may have considered. The avg customers ude between 3-5 gbs a month on unlimited. So if you would have kept the current pricing where I would have paid $30 for 4 or 5 gigs I would have no problem with the change. And the family plan they just went crazy with it, clearly vzw is trying to pay for their lte on the backs of their customers. Just find it funny customers have to bare the brunt even though we are the ones who had to endure outage after outage. If I am a customer getting charge like that the moment I see one outage, loss of data, or any issue I am demanding compensation. You wand to demand a premium for your service then it better perform almost flawless.

Will do Beka.
Including Jseah, there are three of us so far. More to come, I am sure.
When we actually have some info to share, we should start a new thread.

I like the structure of these plans, its just the pricing sucks, and there should be an unlimited option.

I agree, the pricing does suck... which is why I'd be terrified to see what the price point was if they did offer an unlimited option. It would have be somewhere near $200 to make it not the obvious/best-value choice for everyone.

The pricing of any drastic change is what always sucks. No matter what it is. The per line surcharge is outrageous. The data limits to price comparison is ridiculous. And the fact that they lump this in with unlimited minutes is the icing on the cake. They still don't realize that a good chunk of their users don't use the minutes they have or anywhere near them. Give us the option to have a family plan with minutes limited and shared data. Don't make us pay for what we don't need. And don't overcharge us for what we use the most.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. I don't get a discounted "upgrade" until October. I read in another article this:

"Current Verizon customers will be able to switch to the new plans or keep their old ones, with one exception. Those who have unlimited-data plans for their smartphones won't be able to move those to new phones, unless they pay the full, unsubsidized price for those phones. (For example, an iPhone 4S that costs $200 with a two-year contract costs $650 unsubsidized, with no contract.)"

So does this mean I could keep my txt/talk plan (I get 400 minutes and 500 txt and unlimited mobile to mobile) and then just purchase a 2 gig data plan? I never use over 2 gigs.

I pay roughly $75 now, with taxes included. With this b.s., I would go up $25, not including taxes. I do get a discount but my discount isn't going to help that much. Right now it only takes off a few dollars.
