I wonder how much the big cable companies sharing their wifi connections will take away from data consumption on verizon's network.
Very minimal. The cable co's. have tons of bandwidth. They are not limited and bogged down like cellular networks.

So just to make sure I understood everything. Right now I pay 140 after taxes for 1 smart phone w/ unlimited data on my droid x2 and have 2 dumb phones. we only use 700 minutes but we have unlimited texting.
I would upgrade to the sg3 but have no upgrade.....
so in the near future if i want to upgrade to a 4g phone I would be paying
40+30+30 (just to have the phones) + another 70 for 4gb of data? so it would be 170 a month? this is stupid.... I got a smart phone mainly to have pandora/8tracks now I cant even use it if i upgrade....
Also if i buy a off contract phone thats 4g, will I have to change my plan since my x2 is only 3g?
anyone think theyll let me upgrade a couple months early for the sg3?
I've had a promotional plan for my 5 unlimited lines and the new pricing structure will cost me over $100 more. No way.
So, I called VZW last night and as reported, the CSR's have no/little idea what's going on. Really? VZW announces a new pricing structure and their front-line people can't speak to it?
To the credit of the CSR, she promised to call me back at the end of the week.
My position is simple: I am happy to pay what I pay now for the service I have now. To pay $100 more for what will be less service is out of the question. There's no chance that I will stay with VZW. If all carriers move to the same type of plan, me and my family will have to learn to live with simpler devices that cost less to use.
But, if all carriers try to move to this type of plan, I would hope that our Government would question what'll look like tacit collusion on the part of the carriers.
Yeah, I have the same promo. That is promo is the kicker. We have gotten spoiled with the $100 discount. If you read my earlier post, ignoring the discount we would actually be paying a little less per month (also ignoring that we would be giving up unlimited and would essentially be on a tiered plan). But when considering the discount, we are screwed.
I can't imagine that anyone at Verizon expected a $90 1GB plan would test well.Sometimes I think Verizon announces new price schemes just to test public reaction.
In case anybody missed it, here's Verizon's Share Everything Calculator...
Share Everything Calculator - Verizon Wireless
I ran it on my plan and it said I should be paying $220 per month for what I pay $174.95 now. And with the "suggested" plan, I would be capped at 6GB, where now I have 2 unlimited phones on a 4-phone family plan. See below.

Jseah:
All of the folks that got that pricing should keep in touch via this forum to compare notes as we transition to this new plan. If you've got 5 or more unlimited lines and VZW agreed to a deal with you, there's a fair chance that they will keep the price-point of that deal going forward. That's what I'd like to see.

Please keep us posted. I've had that promo on two smartphones since it was available in 2010. When I call up to pre-order our two GS3s, I am going to need major confirmation that this discount AND our unlimited will not be falling off. I don't want to go to Sprint, but I will if I have to.
I like the structure of these plans, its just the pricing sucks, and there should be an unlimited option.
