Used phone question

I'm looking into buying a used phone. If the phone is less than a year old will the factory warranty still apply if something goes wrong with the phone? I'm going to do the deal at a Verizon store so I can make sure everything is ok at the time of sale, I'm just concerned if something goes haywire with it a couple of months down the road.

I'm not sure, but I did hear that if the original buyer sells the phone the warranty doesn't transfer to the new owner. I was told this by a Verizon rep when I sold my Inc in store, but she said usually VZW doesn't care and will honor it anyway.

Thanks. I'm actually looking at a Galaxy Nexus. I'm concerned that it might have some of the reception problems I've read about on the forums. I guess I need to make some test calls before I buy it.
