Verizon announces HTC Thunderbolt with March 17th release date

Yup!

+ tax that will probably be like $75.

I think that the $35 activation is only for a new line. If upgrading then there is no activation fee. That would make the price $270. Sales tax in NY would be $21.60 (8%). In PA it would be $16.20 (6%). I'm not sure about other states though.
I thought the activation fee was to activate the phone, but I could be wrong about that one. The tax is off the full price of the phone, which is like $799 or something like that, so it comes out to a little more.

Where do you live? It is on the price that you pay in NY and PA, not the full price. For instance, if I buy a car that has a sticker price of $20000, but I negotiate a price of $18000, then I pay sales tax on $18000. If I have a $10000 trade in, then I pay sales tax on $18000-$10000=$8000. You must live in California. If I remember correctly, in CA, if you trade in a car you still pay sales tax on the total price of the new car. I think I read that a few years ago.

This is just insane, so something that's $250 is going to turn out to be like $380 because of fees?!

Depends on what state you live in and if you are due for an upgrade or are using an early upgrade. In states without sales tax and you are due for a normal upgrade then the total would be $250. Perhaps even $200 if you have a NE2. So it could be anywhere from $200 to around $370 or so, depending on where you live, how impatient you are to get a new phone and whether it is a new line or an upgrade.

Hi. New to this site and also new to Andoids. Dumping my Blackberry 8330 for the new Thunderbolt tommorrow! Cannot wait. I have been reading posts on this site for 2 weeks now. Lots of thoughts and plenty of help for new smartphone users like myself. Thanks in advance.

Just curious if anybody has received an email from Vzw yet? I figured that by signing up we would get some "early" notice. It will be here in less than 12 hours now and Ive got nothing

You are correct, Ca wants to make sure they get their share plus. Ca taxes on the full retail price. In So Ca, that is 9.75%. It will be an extra $73.03 based on $749

I saw a rumor that skype wouldn't be n it at all.. If so, what would happen if you just installed the skype app? Would the video calling not work ?

I was just on the Skype website and it says Coming Soon to LTE. There is a thing where you can give them your email so you feel like you will be informed. I'm sure they will send you something just like Verizon and HTC

FWIW, I see that most of the recent discussion about the $20 early upgrade fee neglected to mention that one must be ELIGIBLE for the early upgrade. Everyone who wants to upgrade just can't walk in and upgrade. You have to be on a plan > $59.99 for > 90 days and the contract must be more than 12 months expired.
