Verizon is Raising Prices on Grandfathered Unlimited Plans by $20

I called Big Red and asked them about the price raise for us UD users. It is going to be happening and will be November. We should get emails and mail from then about this. Make sure we all give feed back. I asked her if are able to upgrade our phones and keep our UD. She said that with this change. We will be able to do the 24 month phone upgrade contract and pay each month and keep our UD. Really thinking about it. $50 for UD is still a sick deal but I believe it deals with keeping up with other companies and well, money too. I do not plan on leaving. Also will pay the extra for it. I did how ever for get to ask since I am a Vet and getting the Vet/military discount. If my plan would be under the government plan and not get this change. O well, I just have a feeling I will be using more data vs being on WiFi at home. At least they are as of right now not taking it away. I will not use the phone upgrade part of the change. Rather spend $100 on a good used phone. Then look at buying the one I want when its cheaper.

You are not getting any discounts by doing the 24 month phone upgrade, you are only tying yourself down with them for another 2 years, and at the same time paying $20 more a month that you are currently paying for your current plan plus the cost of the new phone , **** them, I will be burning through data like there is no tomorrow, Tasmanian Devil style. I am already paying $103 for one line.

I am not a contract fan. I would do the phone deal. Used it where I like to be on phones. Already broke in so I do not get made if I scratch it or drop it. I always have a outterbox on my phone.

Wow. Color me blown away.
I've been talking to the wife about her data usage. As stated several times:
I assumed she used around 6/mo.
I'm surprised people can use 30+GB monthly.
She tells me she hardly uses public WiFi. Like when getting her hair done. They have WiFi. She doesn't use it.
"I have unlimited data, I don't need to."
So today I decide to check her data on her phone. It resets on the 12th.

No wonder Verizon is doing this, I never went past 7-8 GB a month, using WiFi when possible, not anymore, if people use 300 GB a month, and I try to be responsible, not anymore, Tasmanian Devil style data burning from now on.

Heads up for anyone who knows or would like to find out... I recently discovered that for any of my lines that are no longer on contract or any that are paying per month for a phone that those lines can be reduced from $40 per line to $15 per line. Verizon will not volunteer this information nor will they automatically reduce your line charge when you are off contact. You have to ask for it. It would seem to me that this line charge reduction would apply to tiered data lines and UD lines. For anyone that is not on contract, I would call Verizon and ask for this $25 per line discount. It's worth a try and will help balance out the extra UD charge.

Well I just don't get that attitude.
If everyone's data usage just triples going forward, VZW will be all: well that was a bad move. Maybe we should just kill UD outright.

A lot of people will leave. I told them. Also tell them when they try to get me to upgrade. I hate the store here as they do not care about you. Like a car/truck dealership. They want the commission. I would not have a cell phone if I left Big Read.

Is that the "account access" on the bill?

Those of is still UD are not necessarily on it to tether as squire seems to automatically assume to reinforce his beleif that we are breaking the TOS so we should pay more or loose UD.
Sounds more like sour grapes for being duped out of his UD by Verizon. This does not effect squire so why does he care ?

I personally saw the increase in use of data as time went on and technology advanced,as well as price increases coming later.
Which is why I jumped on the UD when it was offered but it cost a lot more than 1 gig of data, which was more than enough at that time.
Every since than Verizon has done everything they can to move people off of UD after seeing profits being lost now by offerings UD back then.
They have not outright killed it as people go off contract because that would be really bad for business.
Everyone who has been on UD has paid more for data than a tiered program for the prevliage of not having to worry about exorbanant data charges when you exceed the cap. These charges just came as higher pricing in the beginning, than not being able to get subsidized phones as well as having to pay for tethering that used to be free as part of UD. While it is given to tiered plans for free in hopes they will exceed their data caps, so extra fees could be charged.
Nobody on UD has had a free lunch and cart blanch without paying for it as squire likes to say to bolster his agenda of sour grapes.
We pay for service from the following month so the price for data can not be changed before giving 30 days notice of the change.
If UD really was effecting Verizon network in stead of just costing them lost profits they would cancel ID instead of just increasing the pricing. No one would blame them for that.
If Verizon came out and said everyones bill was going up $20.00 when your contract expires believe me everyone would be complaining how unfair it was to just create more profits.

It's a business and it is about profit's, that's it plain and simple.
Your personal income and life is your business. You should be maximizeing your profits the same as Verizon is doing, other wise you will not have enough to live when you can't work anymore.
Verizon does not care about you and your future.

I'm not sure what the "account access" charge is. On my bill it is listed as the "line access charge" which is $40. Then I have listed "$25 off Smartphone Month2Month" which is -$25 for the line that is off contact. For the lines that are on the monthly device payment program, it is listed as "$25 SP Device Payment Discount" which is -$25 for those lines.

I pay for my data and I try to never use public wifi... EVER.

But now I'm on Fi so it uses "approved" and "mutually agreed safe" wifi (when you get VPN keys) so I can't help it. But just for good business I never randomly use wifi that's not set up by someone I've never met.

Something tells me her reason might be different.
