If I were you just wait for the official OTA to be pushed to you. If you read the posts above you Moto finally posted it was an accident the few that got pushed out were just that....accidental. they are working on an official OTA that all bionic owners are to get.

Straight from MOTO "
Wow. I shouldn't be surprised at how many posts are up here since the site came back -- but I am anyway.

Haven't had time to read through this thread yet but I will try.

Anyway, as you know we are always working on improving software for our devices. There is an update for the Droid Bionic in process and it was inadvertently sent early to a small number of users on Dec. 19. We're continuing to test the software and once the software completes the testing cycle, it will be distributed to all Bionic users."

Does my phone need to be all the way back to stock to get the update?

I did the recent update (893) last week. While the phone was 100% Stock. ... Then I rooted and installed the latest Liberty Rom. Now my system version says (886). I am not sure why. but i think I read somewhere that my phone is still actually 893 , but it shows up as 886 due to the Roms settings. I am not clear on that part. ... but do i need to go back to stock for the upcoming update, or can i get some version that works on Rom?

I am new to this , so any info helps. I know I may need to start my own thread with these questions.

Thanks.

You must be on STOCK 5.5.893 including system. You must must not have any uninstalled or missing apps (all bloat must be present). You can be rooted, however.

Yes you will need to go back to stock 893. Also I would use the forever root method or you may loose root on the phone. Did you make a backup before you flashed to liberty? If so you should be able to restore to that backup and then do the update or just wait for the ota.

Technically so am I. However, adding a line for 10 bucks a month seems like a small price to pay (ok, a 240 dollar price to pay over 24 months :D) to get a GNex at discount pricing. And then having a true google experience phone with an unlockable bootloader. It's becoming more and more attractive of an option.

I've gone that route before and with all of the taxes and everything else added in there you're at a little more than $20 a month.

That wouldn't surprise me. I'm going to be in a wait and see mode for a while. Only once I know we're completely screwed will I consider it. Unless I go in to see if they can do anything to flash me back to stock, they tell me no, and I go play with the gnex in person. :) That might be hard to resist. Lol. But I'm good for now. My phone works well with 5.7.893.

It's good to get confirmation from Motorola about this. Can't wait to see the list of fixes/changes when it becomes official.

In the meantime, my phone is working great on. 901 with no observed issues.

Does anyone think that they would be able to fix the phones that we installed leaks on so that we can get back on track?

I'm thinking of going into the store at lunch to see if they can, but don't want to waste my lunch hour if it's not probable.

At this point, I do not think a store can do it. Hang loose. With this 901 update going out by accident Moto has created a situation where they no longer know what version their customers have...some will be on 901 and some will be on 5.5.893. So I think the next update is going to have to be a full update, and that should fix up the 5.7.893 folks. Just a guess on my part.

I just got off the phone after 2 hours with level 3 tech support and I talked to the supervisor of all the supervisors and he said 901 was leaked as part of an office pool to see how many postings the different forums would have about it in a 48 hour period.

This would make the most sense. They would not have to talk about the updates that were pulled from their servers and get into a whole security issue.

I agree with Tonik... I actually received the update but have not installed it. Now that there are three "official" builds (5.5.883, 5.5.896, 5.9.901) out there, Motorola has killed the "official" update path and the next update should be open to all.

I can only hope. This sucks not knowing if I'll be able to update. I guess it's just a wait and see what happens at this point.

Hahaha I bet they were trying to see how many would actually install it.

Assuming that they are not satisfied with the .901 test and decide to release a different version. Or sign it it to update over .901 and .893 only.
