verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

To anyone who wanted a screenshot:

Ok so I got the popup for the update and figured I would give it a try and when I did it started the download and then said that it failed... Then when I went and ran the update checker it told me I already was up to date @5.5.893. I am rooted so I wonder if that had anything to do with it? Is Big Red checking up on us... Have I lost my ability to get OTA Updates???

Just called Motorola support and they say that the only update being pushed is 5.5.893. The tech has no idea where this 5.9.901 update is coming from...according to her systems its not being pushed.

And if that surprises you raise your hand. Moto/VZW customer service is usually the last to know, beside their customers.)

Soooooo … what are we all excited about again??... don't know what it fixes... where it comes from... why it's being pushed to only a few users... or if it's some kinda mistake and will break your OTA path... I wouldn't even touch this thing till I find out a lot more from trusted sources or Motorola support gets back online or … sumthin besides all these idunnos … been around since OG Droid day one release and this just seems weird... (not fishy)... somethings going on but why get excited till you know what to get excited about... knowhuttimean?? ©®™

Have you tried manually rooting the new version with zergrush? It would be good to establish whether that exploit is blocked by this update or not, until someone who is rooted receives the update and can pull the file from /cache prior to running it of course. Then it can be determined if it asserts mount-ext3.sh and blocks permanent root methods.

I've got a phone that says otherwise, though I could see someone making a mistake, or a tech not knowing for sure. Could be either. All I know right now is that I have a system version on my phone that's interesting.

I just called Verizon and got the same reply. However this tech did say that they "the techs" have gotten the information that an update has been pushed after some have already gotten it. Claimed sometimes there is a delay in updating their internal wiki about the phone.

True enough...just wish someone was able to get it out of the cache BEFORE updating though. :(

Good Advice. I will see If it gets pushed to me and pull the file w/o installing.
