So, if I read some of these replies correctly.
I decide to update my phone to a 4G device, and jump onto a 4G plan. And that a new contract is not required to change plans from 3G to 4G?
I understand that adding features do not always require a new contract, but I would bet a lunch, that when VZW jumps to 4G service for phones, if you want to update to a 4G phone with 4G service, you will be required to sign a new contract. Just my opinion...and like all others on this thread, I or no one else knows for sure what will be required for a person to jump to 4G. All this is polite speculation.
Lucky for me, I won't have to make this decision until 2012, when (if?) 4G service makes it into the area I live in.
Right I'm not trying to force my thoughts on anyone. To my understanding (granted I'm not a carrier specialist) we sign up to a data quantity (MB/GB) not to a speed (EDGE/3G/4G). In fact if I remember correctly there wasn't even mention of speeds in the contract itself (they don't charge more for 3G vs EDGE, no carrier does). It is my understanding (and hope) that this holds true for future developements.
