Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Waiting Room

I'm coming from a Bionic as well, haha. I love Motorola, but it was time for a break. Wanted to give someone else a try.

If buying directly from Verizon doesn't matter much to you, Wirefly has pre-orders available for $179.99 with contract renewal. Your early upgrade will work over there just fine as soon as you become eligible. I almost pulled the trigger, but in the end, I just went with a tried-and-true Verizon pre-order. Not that I don't trust Wirefly, but, as pointed out to me by another member, any device issues and whatnot will be handled through them and not Big Red. I'd rather just keep everything in house, even if it costs me an extra $20 ($70 until the rebate comes through).

I got my bionic from radio shack and Verizon fixed it when i had problems, maybe i got lucky? Didn't know that was the policy

Ill just leave this here...

Sent from my VZW Samsung Galaxy S4.

Okay I have a question...I am eligible for an upgrade today and went through the preorder process and when it came to the payment part I always select the one that lets me add it to my next Verizon bill...it did not have that option is that because the phone is a preorder or does Verizon no longer have the add to bill option when purchasing a new phone? Hope this is clear...thank you in advance.

I don't believe you can pay through your bill with pre-orders. Only credit card.

Sometimes customer service able to offer an early upgrade over the phone. There is no hard-set time frame for an early upgrade. It depends on payment history, length of time as a customer, etc. I have seen early upgrades as much as 2-3 months early. Now then, when you do an early upgrade you are NOT restarting your contract. Additionally, early upgrades are not eligible for pre-order devices. Only currently fully stocked phones (non back order) are eligible. Also iPhones cannot be offered for early upgrade. Hope this answers your question.

How do you know if you're up for an early upgrade? It's only 6 days away and I can pre order then, would think I'd be ok.

100% correct, credit card only.

Hey Mandy, Thanks for the great info. Couple of quick questions if you don't mind while I wait eagerly (impatiently) for my new phone. Does VZW put any less pre-installed software on this phone than others, given the fact apps can't be moved to the SD card? I think I read that's a JB thing, though. How much branding has Verizon done to the phone and do you consider it unattractive or unobrusive? Got a lot of questions on how useful the new "tricks" are in your opinion, but I don't want to overask my welcome. :)

THANKS

To be clear here, there are two different types of "early upgrades" mentioned in this thread. I'm sure you're correct about the one you're speaking of - where you call in and customer service obliges. However, a lot of customers still have an "early upgrade" at the 20 month mark of their contract. Those types do work on pre-orders and iPhones. Of course, once the remaining crop of people with contracts expiring before January 2014 disappear, those will all be a thing of the past. Perhaps "early upgrade" isn't the term for that anymore, but I know it used to be.

Thank you all for the replies. I am up for my upgrade today...unfortunately I cannot preorder since I cannot afford to put it on a credit card and now I am stuck waiting to order until the day of the release :( I cannot wait get this phone...it looks awesome!

You are correct, the ability to freeze apps are part of Jelly Bean now. I would say it has about the usual amount of VZW bloat, but has a decent amount of Samsung bloat as well. Its nothing that cant be removed with root.

I think my favorite feature is the hover. Basically, I can eat cheetos and read text messages without getting my screen cheesy! Do love that.
