Verizon Tech here - ask away!

VB,
I tried to go through this entire thread but, I don't have time to read the entire thing. Hope this is not a duplicate question. Is there going to be a fix done about voice commands through Bluetooth devices? Well, i guess the appropriate question would be, have you heard anything about a fix for this? Having to actually handle your phone while driving negates part of the reason you use a bluetooth. I have a ddressed this twice in my Verizon store and both times the techs looked at me like they had no idea this was an issue. Hmmmmmmm, that is a little hard to believe. either or, have you heard anything about this being addressed by whomever? I know it's not a Verizon problem.

This doesn't really solve the issue but it does make things a bit easier. There is an app you can get that allows you to do voice commands with a single push of your camera button. You can check ti out below. It is not a free app. Voice Dialer HF (DFXmobile)

hello viper..first thanks very much for doing this ..it is much appreciated...now onto my question...do you know how an employer can sign up to get its employees a verizon corporate or company discount..?..i did some searching on the verizon site and it just gives you an e-mail search to se if you are eligible..and i am not..i spoke with hr at my work and they are willing to do it..but we need to know how..thank you in advance for your help.

Call 611. They have a phone number that will auto-fax you a form and you send them back the required info via fax. That's another way to do it if the online isn't working for you.

is there a down side to change the setting to improve the call quality.

No, the only thing that could be a problem is that if you are connected to a tower that doesn't support that codec, it could drop the call or not complete a call, but almost all towers now are compatible. I would highly doubt you'd have a problem. It's easy to change back if you were to have something odd happen.

Why is my battery life half of what it was before the OTA??

Do you have WeatherBug? That seems to be a big battery draining app. You can check Home Screen > Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery Use. Anything odd running that's using alot besides display?

ViperBoy Hey thx again for all the answered posts you have done. I have a question wich im sure you probably cant answer but when my phone was initialy set up i used and existing Gmail acount..I have2 Gmail acounts one for work and one for Personal use. My problem is i didnt realize that everything is tied to the main acount for isntance the Gtalk (talk app included in the phoen) is using my work email acount and i would like to have it set to my personal account. I tried restoring my phone so i could put my personal account in and it worked fine however all the apps ive purchesed before from the market are attached to my work acount. So is there anyway to 1. have my phone set for My work account but change the Talk app to my personal acount or 2. set my phone to my personal account and have the Market as my work acount.

Thx again and keep up the awsome work

Honestly, that's crap that he said that. The only way to tell if it was rooted would be a terminal program and typing "su" to see if you get access. I doubt he went through all that. If you had apps that said it required root and you didn't have root but you downloaded anyway, that doesn't matter.

For info on how to unroot and things of that nature, take a look at AllDroid.org. Now, I have not officially heard if rooting voids your warranty. I doubt anyone is really familiar with what rooting is, to be honest. I will see if I can get a better answer for you, but it will take some time to get this answer. Lots of emails and things need to be sent and I will have to ask a few people who will have to ask their people and you know how that goes.

Now that being said, I would think it is safe to say that if you root, it would void the warranty. Why? Because you open the phone up alot easier to get screwed up by apps or by terminal commands that you couldn't do before. That is probably how Verizon is going to look at it. That being said, I have mine rooted and I would just assume that I no longer have a warranty. I would recommend that everyone operate under that assumption.

Thank you. I was reading AllDroid.org last night, I'll read more tonight. And, my next document to read is the warranty - What will I loose? Again, thanks for your response.

Hey while im playing music on the droid it always pauses for a second or two when a notification pops up. I think its great when the sound is on for notifications so the music isnt drowning out the notification sound but is there a way to disable that when the phone is on vibrate or at all? It disrupts the tracks im listening to, its no biggie it jus reminds me of cds skipping and its a bit annoying.

Thanks for all your help and time.

I've got to give you credit too. I've seen in other forums techs who come in and offer assistance, and all they get was a bad time. Mods are keeping an eye out for you and that's a good thing. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer all these questions. And for your helpful hints and suggestions. I think the one post about improving phone quality should become a sticky.

My battery use is.....

Display 90%

Cell standby 3%

Android System 3%

E-mail 2%

Music 2%

Last night I went to bed with a full charge and nothing running, woke up this morning 7-8 hours later and the phone was completely dead. i was shocked, my battery life has been excellent because I'm not a heavy app user. And i do not do much and e-mailing and no texting or IMing.

Well, it was asked before, but it's ok :) I don't use voice command at all, let alone through BT. I will see what I can find out and I will post back here. Sorry that I don't have the answer at this time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Honestly, I'm almost glad I didn't know about this before I got the phone. I probably would've purchased it anyway but, would've felt really stupid knowing that the phone doesn't have a function that I need. I'm stationed in Indiana (U.S.Army) but, live in GA. Indiana is not mandatory hands free. However, when I retire in about 18 months, GA is definitely mandatory hands free. Thanks VB.

Hi VB,

1) The buttons on the bottom don't always work on first touch

2) Quick Search ALWAYS pops up when I hit the home screen or turn it to landscape

3) Sticking sound when I press the touchscreen

4) Web pages time out

Any suggestions?

GPS in Puerto Rico

I am currently in Puerto Rico and the GPS doesn't work here. Is this by design to prevent navigation from working?

Hi Viper thanks very much for posting here! :)

My apologies if this has been addressed, this is a long thread!

I got the Droid to stay in touch with my boyfriend who is deploying. I originally thought Skype would work but it doesn't look like it would, even via Fring. So I am on Google Voice but the word on this now that people are using it with the Droid is that it is charged as an out-of-network call. I do not have F&F and frankly am a bit tight on funds - I hope to avoid upgrading my plan.

I am NOT trying to make free international calls, just make them at the most reasonable cost possible. For Google Voice, can you explain the out-of-network thing, like if evenings and weekends do those minutes not count against me? Can I stay really up to date on my actual minutes used by logging in to my Verizon online? Please let me know if you have ideas for other options.

Sorry if my questions seem silly, I'm not really up on this stuff. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Guys if you don't know what issue be resolved its if you have multimple multiple view facebook profiles when you click on therre contact, he suggested you delete your facebook account then readd then sync. All is well now! Now if somebody can suggest a good video editing app ill be good to go!

I have no way to know what filters Motorola or Google might have placed in the Droid, but I can think of no good reason why either would find it in their interest to degrade the phone's performance in various locales. I will say unequivocally that the GPS system is totally available anywhere in the world. It's one of the primary navigation tools for aviation afterall, and airplanes sure don't fly only inside CONUS.
