Verizon Wireless To Start Charging $2 Convenience Fee Starting January 15

What we can all do is require VZW to send us paper statements monthly, meaning opt out of paperless billing....that should get their attention....

All in all though I can easily just pay them thru my online banking, no worries...but it'd be funny if everyone all of a sudden demanded paper bill statements via USPS...lmao

That's what I've been doing all along. Look, an excuse not to go green. INconvenience charge, I call it.

The reason you get those cash rewards with your credit debit card is your bank is charging VZW for them. Banks are the real issue here. They have become mafia like middle men charging big fees to payees.

Geeze guys i was being sarcastic lol.. Guess that went over everyones head.

Wow. That's really lame. The whole idea of going paperless was so you could A.) Pay your bill in an easier manner and B.) Verizon was saving money by not sending you a bill paper bill in the mail.

Does Verizon charge if you request a paper bill? If so this would be a stupid double standard.

I never sign up for paperless billing i guess im the type of person that want the bill in paper in front of me before i send any money and its easier for me to read on paper than online and there always seems to be some kind of problem anyway..

My family and I really hate Verizon for the past few years. We'd switch over, but there are 5 lines on it and their contracts all end at different times. And Verizon still does have the best coverage >_<

They aren't the only company to do this, so it's not all to surprising to me that they decided to go for it. I fortunately will be unaffected it sounds like. I always pay all my bills through my credit union who sends an electronic check to them. Suck it Big Red not getting my $2 :p DancingNexusor keeping this bootloader locked!DancingNexus

heh

My mortgage company wants $6 to pay online and now Verizon wants $2. I'll be sending them both paper checks in the mail. It'll cost them more to process the paper checks than it would to let me pay online. My paying online is a convenience to them!

It is a convenience they have to pay for. Banks charge INTEREST and FEES to merchants to process credit cards. And the banks are upping the rates. And banks DON'T offer discounts for volume unless it is prearranged in advance(i.e on the same day like when AutoPay is done) in so it costs them MORE money if everyone starts using Credit/Debit cards to pay. So it would not surprise me if they CAN process checks cheaper then they can CC. If you want to blame someone blame the banks. They are the ones charging more fees ontop of huge interest rates. VZW is just trying to cut costs.

not sure what I'll do! I'm staying with Verizon since I have more than a year left on my contract. It's not their fault anyway. I would think the banks would be happy with the paperless transaction, which is what they are going to end up with anyway. If VZW has a place I can stop in and pay in cash that's what I'm going to do.

I will just starting using my routing/account numbers to do the payments. It's not quite as convenient because I have my CC stored on the MyVerizon website.

Most of you are probably too young to remember when the ATM machines first came out. It was a convienience to them to not have as many employees at the bank branch, and ATM withdrawals were free. It didn't matter if you were using your own bank's ATM or another bank. That all has changed over the years and virtually all non-member banks will charge you a fee. We all adapt to these things, and this will be another.

First of all, although proposed internally, will it become effective on 1/15/12? Nobody knows for sure.

Will those of us on DF or other websites who say they want a paper bill be such an overwhelming percentage of customers that they have to stop the $2 fee being implemented - NO. We represent a very small percentage of the overall customer base.

You know, I'd like to say that this bothers me, frustrates me, makes me want to set fire to their corporate offices, etc. But, it doesn't. The last two apartment complexes I rented at pulled this, in the form of $20 a month, for paying online instead of simply stopping by the office. $2 isn't really a bother in comparison.

VZW convenience fee... convenient for who??

I've never understood why they are call convenience fees. You mean to tell me it's less convenient to process an electronic payment than sending a check in the mail? Doesn't make any sense. I'd rather they just up my monthly rate by $2 instead of being lied to.

My apt complex charges $30.

I also just setup bill pay thru my bank to pay my rent easier. I will just add Verizon to it or use ACH. Now...my bank does charge extra for next day service. I will miss having my bill credited in real time with Verizon tho... I'm also one who really cant afford to do auto pay.

Now that I think about it...I pay almost $2 for a money order to pay my rent. Havent used a check in years, almost forgot how to write out a check....lol And I agree with Vulcan about the ATM fees. I dont really care about those fees...and some of those fees can be higher than $2.

How many on here even check to see if you are getting charged credit card transaction fee with businesses? The more I thought about it....the more I realized if not for this thread I would have never known. Thats why I unsubscribed....but cant stay away...lol.
