Verizon's Galaxy S III Comes With Everything You Need Including A Locked Bootloader!

I am done with Verizon. Once I see a price drop on a phone I want to sub $500 I will be moving to T-mobile and getting that $30 a month unlimited everything(5GB a month 4g speeds), calls via voip and what not.

I canceled my order for the sgs3 last night.....been off contract sence nov. last year....I'll be looking at other carriers today....

 Grrrr..., Verizon angers me so sometimes. I feel like they have no idea about the devices they sell and the community they sell them to. Purely big brother crap. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that verizon has some underground deal with apple somewhere to keep android from operating to their fullest potential as it was intended.

Now thats something i actually thought about too...VZW and Apple cutting a deal together. I see Im not the only one who thinks that way, cus it does make since...

We kept getting d*cked an d*cked an d*cked enough is enough jumping ship as soon as the take my unlimited a vzw rep told me that within 4 yrs verizon plans to have the unlimited data plan eliminated by slow transition or forcible removal with new contracts >:(

Saw this earlier and was like "uh oh, not good"

Big Red and their policies

Yeah moto took a lot of heat for being the only ones not that I dont think moto is embracing it but the heat now shifts from moto to vzw.

If its Verizons policy, then why do some phones have unlocked bootloader, or unlockable? Doesnt make much sense to lock down some phones and let others be wide open (Nexus)

Vzw has been working on transitioning more to locked bootloaders. Because of all the backlashed they slowed down until they could give us a nexus. A few years ago vzw said they would release one unlocked device a year (or 2 years cant remember) for those who want a device to develop on. With the vzw nexus now live they fulfilled their agreement so when a customer complain about the bootloader they can point to the nexus.

As far as the nexus is concerned it wasn't Verizon's call...basically Google set down hard guidelines for them to carry the nexus at all including unlockable bootloader and only "essential" Verizon apps like my Verizon and backup assistant

Google did but vzw was willing to do that any way so they can calm down the heat they got from the moto locked bootloaders.

I'm 100% with you on this. I have five lines on Verizon and was thinking about pulling the trigger and upgrading two of them to the SGIII but after this news I'm moving my lines one at a time to a different carrier.

I know root and recovery have been reached but I'm not dealing with a locked bootloader. The last Moto phone I had was the OG Droid and I won't buy another because of the bootloader.

I will be watching how this plays out. If the Dev's can unlock the bootloader I might stay but if not, it's bye bye Verizon for me.

Yeah this pretty much does it for me. I have the pre-order coming in on Monday, but I'm not even going to open it. I'm just going to bring it back to Verizon. I know we can flash through things like bootstrap, but it shouldn't have to be that way. I shouldn't have to settle for that- especially for the last upgrade I'll ever use through Verizon. I've really and truly had it. I'm going GSM pre-paid. I'm sure I'll be happy as a clam with the next iteration of the Nexus, and I won't have to worry about Verizon's bs waiting for my phone to get it's next upgrade. Carriers can go shove it. :icon_ lala:

I think I will be right behind you. After doing some reading on this, I realized that a ton of money can be saved. Not to mention battery life!

And that my friends is why I won't buy a Motorola phone until they change, and why I purchased a GNex 3 weeks ago instead of waiting for this phone.

If VZW eff's with the GNex then I have no choice but to leave the network when it's time to upgrade.

Typical Verizon move. Now people can stop blaming Motorola for it

The GNex has been out for 7 months so I think we are safe!

how did they feel locking down the most wantted smartphone would go over? that no one would care, that devs would not notice?

I mean come on lol.
good job Verizon just throw more **** to turn away tons of people. last year we have.

-change in data plans
-line charge for switching phones
-did they raise the ETF?
-no more grandfather of unlimited data
-crap phones
and now lets top it all off with the bigest android phone to date having the only locked bootloder!(of its world wide counter parts)

Verizon only do bootloader to avoid users bricking a phone then blame it on manufacture for sending them deflected phone . Instead of that, they try to avoid losing money and drama.
