Verizon's New Data Plans & Unlimited Grandfathered Reaffirmed in Training Doc Leak

I read through 7 pages and didn't really see my question addressed. I apologize if it was on the last 2 pages.

So we have 1 Android phone and 2 Blackberry's. How is this going to affect the Blackberry plans??? I didn't really see any mention of it in the leaked info. Will the Blackberry's be automatically transitioned to a smartphone plan and keep unlimited data?

I'm sorry, I didn't see your original question, but what is the difference between the blackberry plans and smartphone plans. My wife has a blackberry and she has the same plan as my droid.

They are, in essence, the same thing. $30/month for unlimited data. They are just called different things which is why I'm afraid Verizon will remove the unlimited data because the plans would need to be transitioned to a "smartphone" plan.

If anyone could tell me I'm wrong and not to worry. That would be great. :)

I would just call and speak to them. When I bought my wife's blackberry 2 years ago, they didn't put her on a blackberry plan, just smartphone. I would think that there's no difference, however when I spoke to them yesterday, switching to a different type of phone means accepting the new terms.

That gives me a clearer idea. So they would have to only use an upgrade for a newer blackberry? They would never be able to move to iPhone or Android? Just as I could never move from Android to Blackberry?

That would be at least some grace on the part of Verizon, though I'd prefer everything to be simply labeled a "smartphone" so there wouldn't be a difference.....

I don't think there is a difference. At one point after activating her bb they changed her plan to a bb one. They then changed it back. We weren't notified so I assume there was no actual change, just a label. The changing from non-smartphone to smartphone is what I think they meant when changing phone types.

There is a more recent leak that says that you can go from any smartphone to any smartphone and keep unlimited. It is only if you are going from unlimited featurephone to unlimited smartphone where you will be required to go tiered.

Lemme get this right, Im eligible for a new ph in July, so as long as I get the ph before July 7 I will still get the unlimited data I have now??

If so, looks like im going phone shopping friday.

No, what is being said now is that if you currently have unlimited and a smartphone, that you will still have unlimited whenever you upgrade. That includes after July 7th. Simple fact is, until Verizon formally announces, no one knows anything for sure. I wouldn't recommend rushing to the store Friday to shop, but if you want to, have at it.

Hmm.....

I read through this thread but did not find the asnwers to what I am looking for.

So it seems that current unlimited data plan customers will NOT be forced into tiers after July 7th or if they want to upgrade.

Does this include customers NOT in a contract? My contract expired last year and I've been month to month with the OG droid.

I currently receive an employer discount for voice and data. Will that data discount go away after the 7th?

Thanks!!!!

Can I add the $29.99 unlimited data to a feature phone?

I have the Samsung Rogue(Feature phone). Can I add the $29.99 unlimited data plan to it and still be "grandfathered" in? I'm waiting for the Bionic, if it ever comes out.

Thank you for your time

Most info is pointing to "no". You would need to already be on a smartphone with unl. data.

I'm not sure how this is working with people who have expired contracts. I think since it's already on your line, you should be good... but I haven't seen anything say that specifically.

The leaked documents say that the data discount will only be available on the $50 5GB data plan and above, not on the $30 2GB plan... BUT since you already have unlimited AND are receiving that discount, I'm not sure if they can just take it off.

For your specific questions, have you tried calling a rep?

The Samsung Rogue is a "feature phone", not a smartphone. Upgrading from a feature, phone to a smartphone after the plan-change date will force you into tiered pricing.

I just upgraded my wife's amd daughter's Rogues into smartphones (iPhone & Inc2) to get in on unlimited... and may finally drop my land line + ld.

If you have your heart set on a bionic, you may be able to play the upgrade now, return later game but ymmv.

Good luck!

Yea, I just chatted with verizon. I have to have a smartphone in order to be "Grandfathered" in. Verizon is starting to piss me off. :icon_evil:

Buy something like a Droid Eris (they're starting to get cheap), switch over to unlimited so you'll get grandfathered it and then use your upgrade when it comes.
