Voice Search/Action Is Awsome!

Yea it is cool and all until you have to repeat yourself 5 times so it understands you correctly...

I said: " I saw a good deal on the internet for at&t dsl. we should look into it"

It captured: "Good deal on the internet for at&t dsl with should look into it" after 5 tries 3 being unable to connect to the server.

:(

Yeah... really it didn't work with that complex dictation?. Maybe you've been watching too much Startrek. You have to use the syntax commands described in the earlier post.

Just say, "go to a t and t dsl" (and don't mumble). That showed me google search results instantly with the mention about their dsl deal in the search info description.

Works great. I have used it now for about twenty text messages and I have used the "note to self" to send instant emails to my google account for various thoughts which pop into mind.

Plus you don't have to repeat the whole message. Often it will highlight words in blue, these words are ones that google guessed at, if you touch them a list of possible alternatives will pop up along with icons for the mike or keyboard if you want to correct it using those. You can also easily highlight words or phrases to correct, anything highlighted will be replaced with what you do next (either typing, or saying what you want them replaced with) I suspect that if you do this, it will eventually get better at recognizing your speech patterns, Dragon Naturally speaking does this as well.

How is this App working for people? after an initial excitement as I was able to call a restaurant on the way to it and book a reservation I am now finding mostly frustration. Even simple tasks like "Dial Steve" it picks instead some random place to call not my son. and as yet it will not do many of the tasks in the video shown.

Has anyone been able to issue the command:

listen to [artist/song/album]

and have it actually play an MP3 on your SD card rather than opening Slacker or something similar which does not take requests? lol

So I guess the reason they omitted opening apps with this is they don't want people talking to their Droids when they're going to fully interactively use them, such as when they're not driving, for dork factor alone. There's a subtle sophistication I think Google has to consider when they're competing with the chrome porn factory. Its users can't be losers.

Much of what this does seems to be safety and convenience features to discourage eyes off the road use when driving. Popping open an app by voice encourages drivers to fiddle with a potentially complex app while driving. Voice Actions enables short discussions that only need a confirmation and then they're done, not a one way ticket to various bad outcomes of driving while using a phone.

Enabling BT dialing is fairly epic, if it not only nearly works, it really most sincerely works. The defect post on Google's tracking site had more stars than any post I've seen.

The problem is the voice command thing doesn't work in a moving car with all the noise. The only way I can get it to work is by "holding" the phone upto my mouth, which defeats the whole hands-free thing.

The best part about it is that it works via bluetooth. I didn't even know about the update, and accidentally hit the button on my bluetooth car stereo. Pandora paused, and a voice asked me to say a command. I told it to call my wife, and it worked. Been waiting for this since November!

I'm thinking they also updated the bluetooth capabilities, because my phone seems to connect to the stereo more consistently now.

You've been waiting since November to call your wife? Was she ok? lol

I was using this the other day at home. I was asking it goofy stuff to see the response. I said, "How are you today?" It answers "I am fine, how are you doing?" My wife told me to stop flirting with my phone and come eat dinner.

It's very inconsistent - but maybe it's just me. Sometimes it makes a call when I ask, such as "Call Papa Johns". But, what is so difficult about "Call Home" (when "Home" is an entry in Contacts)? I can never get that to work!

And, the "listen to" never looks on my phone for the music I am requesting. What's up with that??

It is just afraid your wife will answer the phone at home!

It does not like you to talk to other girls!

Wow it is really cool! Works very well. I'm hoping developers can integrate their apps with this. For instance when I say 'text - xyz...' it only allows me to use the stock messaging app or google voice. Same goes for music searchs, I can only choose Slacker or Pandora.

this is the most awesome thing,WHEN IT WORKS. I'm am running a 1:8 hit ratio. I'm getting a lot of "connection problems" and "server problem"
too bad, but I think I'll get more frustrated whit this than it's worth. I'll play with it a little, but I don't have high hopes for it's longevity on my droid.

The key here is "when it works" There are a couple of major glitches for me every time I say "dial Ryan," or call Ryan or phone Ryan, it always comes up calling Duquense University. Now that makes no sense at all and is most frustrating.

Maybe Ryan was at Duquense University?? :)
