I'm guessing you currently have a 3g phone activated?
All you need to do is go into a store and ask them to switch the phone. Once they have entered the IMEI the program asks for a sim card. Because you are just switching devices, it is not a contract extension and therefore will not affect your unlimited Then in the future when you get another LTE device, you can just switch the sim cards between phones

You technically can go anywhere. You probably have more luck going to a corporate store, as I have heard of vendors charging for the sim card. We don't at Costco, but we also don't get many people that aren't buying a new phone.

Edit: Damn, another question. Okay so on the plan I currently have three phones have upgrades available (two smartphones and one dummy) the boyfriend wants to transfer his upgrade (comes with a fifty dollar incentive and trade in his droid incredible for twelve dollars for a subsidized HTC DNA phone) to the dummy line in order for him not to lose his unlimited plan. It's this possible?
In theory I have heard that you transfer the upgrade to a dummy line then buy the 2 gig data plan and pay the $30 upgrade free, activate the smartphone on the dummy line then transfer the smartphone to the desired line in this case the boyfriend's unlimited line. And then put back the dummy phone and cancel the data plan? This is done all on the same day?

Question 1) Is it possible to transfer an upgrade on a line that already has an upgrade on it?

Is Activation Mandatory?

Recently I ordered a new cell phone from verizon wireless, with a 2 year agreement. My plan was to order the phone with 2 year agreement and data, and then give the phone to a friend of mine as a gift, and then revert that line back to its standard dumbphone feature plan, but now with a 2 year service agreement which I don't mind since I don't plan on switching carriers.

The phone is on its way to my doorstep.

Curiously, I went online to check out my cell phone plan to see if it was changed automatically with the purchase of the phone, this is the error message I get when clicking on the "Change Minutes, Text, or Data" tab: "Our records indicate you recently purchased a device for this line of service but have not activated the device yet. You have the option to change your calling plan after you have activated your new device, or you may contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for further assistance. "

So now I am wondering- do I have to open up and activate this phone, and begin the 30$/mo 2gb data plan? Or can I just do whatever I want with the phone, and never activate it on my account? Or maybe the phones ESN will be flagged as "bad" or something since it was never activated on the account it was intended for?

You will have to activate that new phone on what is to be your dumb phone line (which I'm assuming was the line that made you eligible to receive the phone at a subsidized price). When activating the phone on the dumb phone line, you will have to choose at least the $30 tiered data plan (if it is a smart phone). Once it is activated and the new 2 year contract is in effect then you can put a dumb phone on that line, drop the tiered data plan, and then after, you are free to give the new phone to a friend... But:

*You will have to keep a dumb phone on that line for the two year contract, and
*you will have to pay the $10 monthly fee for that line for two years or pay an early termination fee.
*if you don't put a dumb phone on that line, then your new phone will have a bad esn and will not be able to be activated until you do put a dumb phone on that line...in other words, the new phone will be tied to that line until you put another phone on that line to replace it.

I don't know if I should say thank you or ask you if I really answered your question that well. If I did, that's really cool. Sometimes I wonder if I over-answer, give more info than necessary, (sometimes, i do) lol!

To answer the other question... no, you should be fine to activate the dumb phone on that line on your own and you should be able to drop the tiered data online. If not, you can call Verizon to discontinue the data.

I wasn't being sarcastic. This kind of information isn't really easy to turn up with a simple google search, and going into a VZW store without knowing exactly what you intend to do and what VZW policy is in that specific area can be really unpleasant. Now I know what to expect and I didn't even have to make a 45 min phone call to VZW in order to do it.

I'm not quite sure what exactly you are asking, but hopefully this will help.

I work for a vendor and our prices are almost always lower than at corporate. We give basic accessories with every phone, and with some Motorola phones come with a mail in rebate for M branded accessories.
I've seen some corporate places try and tell people that we sell refurbished phones, but that is simply not true, at least for my store.

I think it depends on the retailer. My company is okay, but I will never get a raise unless I move up in the company. I've heard that it's not so great to work at a corporate location, but again I think it all depends.

Yes, buying a used phone or purchasing full retail is one of the best and easiest ways to make sure you keep your unlimited. Although there are other options that allow you to keep unlimited also.
