Quick question.....I have nationwide calling (700 mins, no roaming)/unlimited text plan (Verizon). I just got my Droid with the $30 data plan as required. My question.....

Will I, or can I, incur roaming data charges if I leave my "area"?

Thanks in advance!

The only time you incur roaming charges on a unlimited plan is if you leave the country and do not get the global data plan ($64.99 to $69.99)...

Thanks for putting your necks out to answer questions. Here's a fairly simple one, but I've looked around for a bit and couldn't find a quick answer.

So I am going to buy a droid. So pumped. Was planning on getting it from Amazon, and getting pretty much the cheapest deal i could (fairly strapped for cast)

40 for 500 min/free nights weekends
10 for 500 texts/free verizon texts
30 for data.

$80 a month.

Now here's my question: A good friend of mine just suggested we get a "family plan" together for the two of us. She's a long time verizon customer. I never have been (other than dsl internet).

1. Is this an ok (or even possible) deal or will it come back to bite me. (Im not worried about getting ripped off on paying the bill; we are both legit.)

2. Will this save me money. Any ball park guess what I'll be paying? Will it be less than 80 per month?

3. Finally will this work if I want to keep my old number (currently on a criket phone) if we both have different area codes?

Thanks a lot a lot.

Family plans will def save you money overall. It won't be less then 80 if you do a family plan. Are both of you wanting to get Droids, or just you?

Family Plans: (there are others to choose from)

$119/ Month will give you 1400 minutes to share, nights and weekends starting at 9, and Friends and Family (10) (you can pick 10 numbers for the account and call them as much as you want)

Then it would be $30 per Smart phone (droid)

As for keeping your same number I would HIGHLY recommend going into a Verizon Store or Best Buy Mobile and have them do it. It's not that easy to do online especially if you are new to the concept. They will need your account number for cricket, and any account password that you may have.

good question,
1: it is ok, and it IS possible, you simply need to figure out between the two of you who's name (therefor, social security and cred score) will go under. one thing though, remember that 2ndary lines do not get a NE2 discount (after your tired of your droid in 2 years)

2:YES it WILL save you money. your looking at $10 for the secondary line, and $30 for the data plan, so about $40 per month, instead of $80. however you will haveto get a higher family plan depending on how many minuts per month you each use (700 minimum fam plan)

3:you can port over numbers from other carriers, it does not matter what area code is associated to the numbers. however if you live in different areas, wherever the account owners permanent address is, is what the state taxes will be (you live in arizona vs her living in new york...ny has higher taxes)

make sense?
let me know if any other questions or if this dont make sense.

Thanks a ton. **EDIT I REREAD AND UNDERSTAND** The one thing I still don't quite understand is the area code thing. We both actually live in DC. Her area code is from Oregon, mine is from Colorado. Neither of us want to change our phone numbers. Paying a higher tax isnt a deal breaker. So is it possible for her to keep her 503 number and me to keep my 970 num?

Finally, if I do this is it possible to still get my phone from Amazon.com for 110 rather than from the Verizon store for 200 (i believe is the price.)?

If the account is already in her name, she would assume responsibility for your number and it would be ported into her account.

Your location has nothing to do with what phone numbers you have on the account. You can easily have 4 phones with numbers from 4 different states. People generally just get numbers for their location because of land lines and non-long distance calling, but with everyone having nationwide calling plans, it's almost moot.

You can buy the phone off eBay and once you port your number into her account you would activate the phone onto the line(since Verizon is the only company that supports the Droid).

Data plan changes on my account will cost more

All 3 of my phones have the VPAK. 2 of the phones are smartphones. I went into the verizon store to upgrade my phone(primary line), and the plan would have changed from what I have now(National Family Plan). The first 2 phones have VZ Nav as well.
The issue I would have dealt with is that the plan would have to be changed. Would have to have data plan on Droid(expected), but would have to change to data plan on 2nd phone(instead of $15.00), it would be $29.99. I would also have to re-add VZ Nav to her phone since as of now it is included in the plan. So from $25.00 to $39.99.
Also, my phone plan would go from $130.00 to $110.00 but then I would have to add data plan at $29.00. It would go to $139.00. So overall, I would be paying $30.00 more overall. Still debating. Wish you did not have to get the data plan for all phones on the family plan and only the one that you upgrade, but alas, verizon trying to make it simple, yet, more costly.
Also, third party stores do not always show early upgrade(BB). Went to BB and they did not show it, but the Verizon store does.
Because we all use data and unlimited txt, etc., the plan we are on now is the best one.(1400 min, F&F). Adding the Droid would add $30.00 to this plan.

Since I have 2 smartphones, if I buy a Droid, I have to change plans. For each smartphone I have, it will be $29.99. I do not think it is fair that they want to charge for the older phone and the new phone. The older phone should be grandfathered in and should not have to change.

For now, I am Droid free, but hopefully not for long.

i am not sure if this falls under your realm but i will give it a try.

a week or so ago i found myself banned from the Verizon Forum. it had been awhile since i visited the site due to work but it totally surprised me.

and before anyone posts, no, i never flamed anyone and no i always refrained from vulgar language.

i am currently a silver contributor on the site and dont understand why i would be banned from the website.

my only thought is that recently i wiped my hard drive and did a factory reset on my laptop to get rid of a malicious file on my computer.

since my forum account is tied to my phone number, so i cant start a new account, is there something that can be done? is there a waiting period for this "ban"?

Not something we normally do, i would contact vzw e-services dont know the number by heart but if you call general CS 800-922-0204 they can transfer you

If you have a WinMo device goin to the droid should have charge you, if you have BB the data is branded differenet in the system due to how it's routed but still the same cost, as far as your plan dependin on what plan your on if it's old enough no matter if you currently have a smartphone, an old plan may be incompatible with droid requiring you to update the plan, hope this helps
