Well, as of right now I removed all the movies off my Droid. Why did I do that? Because....thanks to DVD Catalyst (Mitch), I am the guinea pig of a MP4 streaming site he created. Now I have all my movies on there and can stream them whenever I want. Runs perfectly; I am able to skip back and forth, no audio or video lag issues...nothing.

The downside is this. I cannot access my router management to open the port to make it readily available to everyone. I forgot my user name and password (so many of them these days).

Anyway, its not really a site. It functions as a webserver on your computer.
Keep all your movies on your computer, and you can access them through your own network at home. The program functions as a simple media management app (like iTunes) but provides a web interface to access these files on wifi-enabled devices that can play mp4 files.

Initially I started it for iPhone/iPod Touch a year or 2 ago, but put it on hold due to time constraints. Since I started the trailer thread, I received quite a few questions in regards of something similar so I started working on it again.

I decided to provide a sample of what I am working on.

Visit MP4 Streaming Server on your Droid (or PC)

The app basically runs that from your own computer, with your own Droid-optimized video files such as movies and tv-shows.
While it has a few configuration options, it works quite simple.

Add video files to the program, click on the start webserver button and thats it.

On your own network at home, no.
If you would use it for streaming over the internet, so you can watch your vids anywhere you are, it's limited by the upload speed of your internet connection.

I am adding profiles to DVD Catalyst that will let you select profiles that will play pretty decent on any internet connection, but it will have quality loss.

My DSL internet at home is a 3MBit connection, which allows me to download at 3096 Kbps, however, my own upload is 768Kbps.
The trailers (hosted on a website host provider) are encoded at 1660Kbps (1500Kbps video + 160Kbps Audio) so there is no way for me to stream that quality from my DSL connection without lag/buffering, however, a wifi network will be more than capable to handle this.
The standard Droid profile in DVD Catalyst is even a little too much for streaming on my DSL, since that totals at 928Kbps (800+128).

So, the streaming profiles I am adding are optimized for specific upload speeds. Depending on the upload speed, they have a reduced screen resolution (I can stream good quality iPod Touch files on my home connection without issues) and lower quality settings.

Thanks DVD Catalyst. My computer works overtime just about every night while I sleep. Some nights I'll have my desktop, my laptop, my mothers desktop and the desktop in the garage all converting my DVD's.

Yeah it sucks to have to do that. But I have yet to find a "decent" file sharing site that doesn't require a paying account. Also with good download and upload speeds.
