What current movies are on your Droid?

I was thinking more along the lines of this: GSplit - File Splitter - Split Any File

Where the person that does the downloading can then re-join the 2 parts. This software will even make it so the user does not need any software to re-join the files.

Wouldn't it be easier to zip/rar the files into a multi-part archive, so when the downloader extracts it, it will unzip into the 1 file for the movie?

Easier? I guess it depends on if you are doing the splitting or the joining. Not that it is a big deal for some, but by using that free software, there would be no need for anything else on the user's side to combine the pieces.

You could rar the movies into 2 smaller files, but the user would need some software (winrar or other) to combine them. Unless it will create a rar that can be self-joined with no software?

Either way for me. I just wanted the files smaller than 1GB do I did not have to sugn up for a premium account.

Thanks for doing this for us :)

X2 I'd love to have 2 RAR FILES available to download for FREE instead of signing up for a premium account. it seems rather expensive for those accounts.
I use 7zip its better than Winrar and Free and handles any type of Zip Format that I have come across

Since JTAC let this out of the bag yesterday,

Well, as of right now I removed all the movies off my Droid. Why did I do that? Because....thanks to DVD Catalyst (Mitch), I am the guinea pig of a MP4 streaming site he created. Now I have all my movies on there and can stream them whenever I want. Runs perfectly; I am able to skip back and forth, no audio or video lag issues...nothing.

DVD Catalyst (Mitch), thanks for thinking outside the box!

I decided to provide a sample of what I am working on.

Visit MP4 Streaming Server on your Droid (or PC)

The app basically runs that from your own computer, with your own Droid-optimized video files such as movies and tv-shows.
While it has a few configuration options, it works quite simple.

Add video files to the program, click on the start webserver button and thats it.

I took a peek at the site and the samples blew me away. Granted it was on my computer with broadband speed, but if i can get that on my Droid...wow. Anxious for the rollout. BTW I bought Catalyst and it WAS WELL WORTH IT. Thx.

Thanks BladeRunner,

The sampleson the mp4 server demo are pretty much the same as the ones in the movie trailer thread. Its the whole interface for browsing the files through the site that is provided by the app.

New videos on my Droid....correction, on my mp4 streaming server (thanks DVD Catalyst, now I have 15 GB worth of free space on my card)

Gamer
Toy Story 1 & 2
The Incredibles
Man on Fire
Tears of the Sun
Vampire Diaries all episodes (for my sister....really!)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

You arent storing them on your card your streaming them from your server? I have 7 movies but a very small amount of space left on the card...

Just removed a couple movies and loaded all three seasons of Arrested Development. That should keep me occupied when it gets boring at work this week.

Correct! I am loving this program!:yeahbaby01::yeahbaby01:

SHHHHHhhhhhhh.

It's a secret. I dont want the idea stolen before release.

Anyway, its not really a site. It functions as a webserver on your computer.
Keep all your movies on your computer, and you can access them through your own network at home. The program functions as a simple media management app (like iTunes) but provides a web interface to access these files on wifi-enabled devices that can play mp4 files.

Initially I started it for iPhone/iPod Touch a year or 2 ago, but put it on hold due to time constraints. Since I started the trailer thread, I received quite a few questions in regards of something similar so I started working on it again.

So when completed will you be able to stream over 3G or is it wifi only. I only ask because the only time I watch movies on my Droid is when Im in the field, and no wifi out there, but I do get a strong 3G signal.

It works through the web browser, so basically any internet connection you are using will work. The thing to keep in mind is that the quality of the video is directly connected to either the upload speed of your internet connection at home (which is usually significantly less than your download speed) or the download speed of your 3G connection, whichever is lower.

The streaming part is NOT dynamic, which means that it will stream the files you have already, at the quality/format you have encoded them. It doesn't convert them on the fly.

With the new DVD Catalyst update I am working on as well, I added some profiles based on bandwidth limitations. Reduced screensize, lower quality settings etc to still produce a decent looking video, even on something as low as 128Kbps upload

The simple rule is that the Kbps used for video and audio can not exceed the minimum of your connection to ensure great playback. Of course you can "stream" a 1660kbps (1500kbps video+160kbps audio) on a 128kbps connection, but it will take 10x as long to watch the whole video.

To test, just visit this website on your Droid using whatever internet connection you want to use: MP4 Streaming Server
