Why is the Incredible better than the Droid?

You have heard incorrectly. You can take it from someone who has the phone, to ease your mind.

Naw thats cool. I did say it was a jealous bug. :] glad to hear that.

The lte/4g phone will be a brand new phone, hardware and all.
thats why ill wait. Droid is fine for now.

This all comes down to personal preference...I played around with the incredible at Verizon and was impressed, but not enough to switch. I love my Droid, but I'm sure if i had the Incredible for a few days and was able to set it up how I wanted it I would love the Incredible too.

Really? I was under the impression that the Incredible was underclocked, presumably to deal with battery issues. Is that not the case?

P.S. No jealousy here. The weight of opinion suggests the DI is considerably smoother than the (stock) Droid and even if it's underclocked, it's still running significantly faster than the Droid.

not under clocked. definitely running at the advertised 1ghz. :)

To answer the original question:

The Incredible:

  • has a vibrant screen that uses less power.
Really? So far evidence says this is untrue.

There is no evidence that says its untrue. The DI just has a smaller battery with a battery hungry cpu and UI.

In the majority of image viewing situations, OLED technology has about 60-80% the power consumption of LCD. This is well documented. Battery usage screenshots people have posted for the Incredible indicate it's real world AMOLED power performance to be superior to the Droid's LCD display.

As Adrynalyne indicates, those performance shots also show the OS on the Incredible to be consuming much more power than the Droid's OS. The Incredible does have many reports of disappointing battery performance. But the screen is not likely to be the culprit.

Active Matrix OLED is also a vibrant display. Because OLED pixels are self-lit where LCD pixels create color by masking an always-on backlight, OLED displays are capable of achieving much darker blacks. This results in higher contrast levels vs. LCD.

This, of course, doesn't mean everyone likes AMOLED displays more. Compared to the Droid, the Incredible's display is lower resolution due to both fewer pixels and the 2x2 PenTile matrix used in the display. The level of saturation can also result in color reproduction that's more unnatural than the Droid's LCD display.

This all comes down to personal preference...

So as gszeman implies, there are pluses and minuses to the Incredible vs. the Droid. And what some may see as pluses may in fact be minuses to others. For example, I personally prefer the Droid's display.

But I think it's only fair to point out what can be considered to be better features, then let people decide whether they agree. After all, if one person's perfect gadget was everyone's, we might all be using iPhones.

its underclocked to 768mhz

I cruzed by the Verizon store today just for schlitz and giggles and compared it to my Moto D. The screen and response in general was snappier with the HTCI. When I opened up the internet, the HTCI didn't seem all that much faster than the Moto D, but in all fairness I didn't have a real chance to test it out with different sites. The keyboard was nice on the HTC, but nothing to scream about, but then I use the qwerty keypad about 80% of the time on my Motot D.
The screen was ever so slightly smaller on the HTCI and of course it was quite a bit lighter with a smaller body (again, no qwerty kboard). The store rep told me the HCTI doesn't have the video processer that the Moto D has so processing videos (IE You Tube) is quicker and better on the Moto D. I actually prefer the the size and weight of the Moto D better (personal preferance). In the final awaking, I prefer the Moto D and will stay with it. Oh well, I guess I don't have the latest and quickest which works just fine for me.

How can you go through a thread of DI owners, then look at reviews on the net, and then look at rebuttals, and then still say that?

The rep was full of crap. The GPU is lesser in the DI, but it has nothing to do with video performance. Not enough to matter.

I know how OLEDs and LCDs work. There was a test done on the N1 screen and it did not perform how they should in theory. I'm not disagreeing that normally, OLEDs are better than LCDs, but currently the OLED display in the N1 vs the LCD in the Droid is not better.

I would post the link but I have posted it several times and I'd rather not search my posts again to link it again so nobody will read it again lol.

From what I read the OLED screen in the N1 is poor excuse for an OLED screen and the Droid's LCD is very nice.
