Why the Droid 1 is still the best

Why the droid 1 isn't the best anymore:
After one year, my "great speaker" is blown and sounds terrible

The camera is freaking terrible

Without something like launcherpro it is really laggy

I've grown bored with most of the ROMS. They are all basically the same now.

It was an excellent phone when it came out. Now it's "just okay". I'll ditch it when the 4G phones come out.

I would have said the same thing about the droid 1 if I still have it. I had it overclocked and all that. It doesn't even come close the the speed and smoothness of the newer phones. An overclocked droid can't touch the newer phones.

I tested my 1 ghz Droid one today against my friends new droid 2 global stock and the droid won on a wifi browser test. I cleared cache on both and connected to the same wifi network and the droid 1 won 80%+ of the time. I was amazed.

I am with you guys! D1 is the best! I can't see my getting a new phone until something spectacular comes out. Every time I put a new theme or ROM, it feels like a new phone. I can never put this thing down. It does EVERYTHING... dancedroid

I don't think my droid is that great anymore. As far as loading web pages fast, it is is as fast or faster than anything out there. Other than that, it lags, has redraw issues and overall isn't that smooth. I've had two roms on it that worked flawlessly, but I tried different roms and I've never been able to get it quite the same. At least I've got a good excuse to try new ones though.

I love my D1 also. I finally feel no need to spend money to upgrade. It does everything i want and more every day...

I hardly ever have redraw issues since I entered that hack code on this forum. It fixed all my redraw and lag issues. Seriously my D1 is smooth as butter and fast as a balloon a child let go of on a windy day. Boooyaaa.

I'm loving my Droid X but I'll always have a special place in my heart for the Original Droid that is now my girl's phone and she's loving it....

I LOVE my droid, but, the redraws makes it feel like a POS. there is no reason why we should have to root, and apply hacks to get this thing to run the way it should. IF there is ever a real fix for this from Google, i will consider this one of the best phones ever made. until then, i will be looking to upgrade to a newer phone.

I miss how easy it was to root unroot/flash roms/sbfs all that on the D1.. I've found it a bit more complicated to do WHAT YOU WANT on the D2 BUT the D2 is much smoother and faster...

Droid sux compared to any of the new Android phones released in the last couple of months . The only thing it's good for is to hold PSFreedom on it :))

Plus you can get it for really cheap on Ebay now. Get a new Vibrant, sell it and get a D1, pocket a few hundred bucks.

Whats really cheap? I did a quick look and all I could find were ones in the 180-200 dollar range? Not cheap IMO. Maybe Im missing them. I saw cheap broken ones.

I'm still running my D1, and while I wouldn't say it's still the 'best' device, there's nothing out that has made it worth upgrade IMO. I can OC this thing to match any CPU out, and can tweak it to make it run how I need :)

I have a D1 and a D2 and don't notice much difference in speed between the two. The vanilla D1 OS is much better than the bloated D2, if only the best of both phones could be married into a new phone. The keyboard on the D2 smokes the D1's, I actually find it easier to type on the D2 keyboard than to use the touch keyboard. I never got used to using the D1's keyboard. In some ways I have DX envy but I carry my phone in my shirt pocket and feel the DX would be a little much.

I agree...

...but it's days are numbered...

While development is still going strong I really wonder how well it will be in a few months when the majority of droid1 owners have an upgrade staring them in the face as well as some pretty wicked and always hackable devices on the market. Once the first dual core phone comes out there really won't be much looking back.

Agreed. I love my droid, but it annoys me at how slow it can get sometimes. You always have to mess with it to get it to perform optimally, dont get me wrong I love to tweak stuff, just not every other day lol

Once the dual core, 4G phones come out I'm definitely gonna get one and either keep the d1 just for the hell of it or sell it. Now the question is can I wait until next november when my contract is really done, or do I try and get out of it early?
