Will the Droid ever match IPhone's...

...market flood of third party accessories? Within a week of its release, there was an "I - everyhting", I toilet paper roll, I this, I that. Hell, we can barely scare up a decent case on here so far.

Granted, Apple had a head start with an ish-ton of accesories for the ipod prior to the iPhone, and the Droid is still new, but I was at least hoping for an Altec lancing/I home style speaker dock by now.

So what do you think? Is it just a matter of time? Or is it something different all together?

(please say its a matter of time, I REALLY want a speaker dock for work.) ;)

Well Apple is a marketing monster, not sure if it will get that big, but it would be really nice to walk into a Best Buy and see nothing but iPhone crap.

I don't think any phone will be able to match the iPhone/iPod accessories. I have not yet seen a phone that takes accessories into consideration. They are all trying go micro-usb, mini-usb, proprietary, etc. Apple has stuck with the exact same connector through all of their iPods and all of their iPhones. So manufacturers have a large audience to produce for. The Droid is probably the only phone that somewhat thought about accessories.

Yeah I hear ya on the marketing. Honestly though, I could do with out the junk..I'm just surprised at the dearth of products available especially considering the quality of the Droid. (...aaaand I just want a nice speaker dock (and remote).

i own the bose dock and i really really wish i could put my droid on there:( maybe someone could invent an adaptor :D

Give it some time. Motorola and Verizon both are not in the HUGE promotional business. Apple thrives on that and they are very good at what they do. In due time the Droid should have the same accessories out. PLUS we will beable to get an extended battery hopefully. Too bad the iphone cant do that :)

FYI... Apple's connector is highly proprietary. Just try to get one to create an accessory and you will find out just how proprietary it is. They own the connector. The micro-USB is, arguably, a standard connector. Of course, all of this is academic in that, proprietary or not, Apple has a terrific machine working for a few years allowing the proliferation of many accessories. Hopefully, the Moto Droid will get there some day. I'm an ABA guy (anything-but-Apple).

I think the greater question is...

Why Does The DROID need to match the number of accessories of Apple's offering?

As a previous iPhone user, I found the vast majority of iPhone accessories to be nonsensical, redundant, or just stupid.

The DROID needn't fall into the trap of relying on silly/proprietary gadgets that add little functionality and lot's of bulk/inconvenience.

A nice selection of protective cases, a few docking untis, and that's about all that's required - IMO

Oh yeah, I know the Apple iPod/iPhone connector is proprietary. Probably more than any other company. But it's the fact that their proprietary connector is uniform throughout the entire history of the iPod and the iPhone. That year's worth of products and customers that they've gathered and kept by not changing the connector. So someone can purchase a speaker dock to work with their iPhone 3GS as well as their iPod 2G.

If cell manufacturers would attempt this uniformity, then manufacturers would be more likely to design products for other cell phones. But all cell phone companies are different. Look at Motorola. Have they even made two cell phones within the same company that have the same footprint? Maybe the same connector, but not the same footprint.

Why does it matter to you? Who cares if there are stupid products for the Droid. Just don't buy them. The more products out on the market means more selection, more variety, and better competition which leads to better prices. If there were only a limited amount of accessories for the Droid, then they would be expensive. Why do you think you can get apps for free or for 99 cents? If there were only a limited few apps, then prices would be much higher.

Here, this might bring you a bit of clarity:

OPINION - noun a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

LOL, and I was sharing my opinion on why I think your opinion would be bad for the market. I'm glad we both understand what OPINION means.
