I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that he read it on the internet, as it's pretty common knowledge for ICS. The one for Jelly Bean is more fun, you get a screen full of Jelly Beans to flick off the screen.

There is a similar function accessed the same way for GB that gave you a picture of GB Android among a bunch of zombies, but I don't think it ever did anything like this. Honestly, I just stumbled upon it by trying to zoom in.

I'm pretty sure Sarge was playing with swap files IIRC he posted that he typed in a wrong number and hosed his phone.

Yea he was playing with deeper settings than just creating a swap file. I think it was part of the I/O and I can see where that could bork the phone.
