Yahoo Mail?

I changed the settings on my droid and actually had it working sending and receiving email for about an hour and then it quit again, says, invalid username and password. My wifes quite yesterday also and her's is still working on the new settings. I changed them to:
pop3
pop.att.yahoo.com
995
ssl

outgoing is:
smtp.att.yahoo.com
587
none

Like I say hers still works and mine stopped again. My desktop outlook quit working in the meantime for the same email address. It now pops up wanting me to save the network password which I do and then click ok and it just keeps coming back. The error says "invalidated username and password". Now all i can do is check email via webmail.

Unbelievable. As I am sitting here typing this I received an email on my droid laying on my desk.

Another wierd thing with my wifes phone is the only folder she shows is the inbox, no outgoing, sent, trash, just the inbox. Where did the rest of the folders go? This is before and after I did the manual 2.01 update.

i replied to an email yesterday from my droid, and today i checked the sent folder, and it sent that message about 300 times from my yahoo account, anybody else having this problem. i sent my self an email from my work email, and i replied from my droid checked the sent mail, and it sent twice. anyone know why this is happening!
thanks

I have this problem as well......have deleted 20,000+ emails from the sent folder in the last week. Wondering if this will be fixed with an update. Mail works fine other than this irritation.

where did you come up with the incoming and outgoing att.yahoo.com?

Not sure why...but Yahoo has worked for me today. I turned wifi off and followed the steps outlined earlier in the thread and else where. And finally got past the imap.mail.yahoo.com part and didn't get the "invalid username/password"

Who knows how long this will work for...when I 1st got the phone yahoo mail worked on the phone for about 2 days and they stopped....but I'll stay optimistic.

Just an update...I stopped in the Verizon store yesterday and the rep deleted my current yahoo acct on the droid and reinstalled it. Because I bought the premium yahoo email when setting it up she didn't go to the manual set up she just continued normally and so far my phone has been working receiving the emails. She told me if you don't have the premium email version of yahoo that the email works and doesn't work....it is sporadic, but the paid version works fine.....I am hoping so.....so far so good. If so $20 is worth it to me

I don't get the pw error, e-mail just force clsoes on my almmost every time I run it. Sometimes it will get my e-mail, but most of the time I can't adn being able to send is about 50/50, sometimes it works, sometimes force close. Any thoughts? I hate forwarding it to gmail and having dups of everything and I don't like the way gmail puts theminto "conversations".

Oh I have Yahoo through ATT, so I don't think Ineed to do Yahoo Plus.

This issue is listed as to be addressed in the update on the 11th. It's listed on this TSB at the bottom
DROID and DROID Eris Getting OTA Update on December 11th ? | Android Central

It's pretty bothersome that the 5 page document outlining the known problems was released on November 5th:
Motorola Droid OTA Update Coming December 11th? | Android Phone Fans

And the Moto DROID itself was released on November 6th, with both Moto and VZ KNOWING it had 5 pages worth of problems:
Hello Humans: Droid By Motorola Arrives Next Week

Thanks alot VZ and Moto - working together to release low-quality products in time for the holiday season!

Meh. At least it /should/ get fixed before XMas. At least I haven't turned off my BB yet.

-FP

5 pages is nothing for a device with this many features
In fact I can guarantee this is just a small subset of ALL of the bugs. I'd bet Moto has a DB to track of all of the bugs, and to export that would be a long spreadsheet. most are bugs you wouldnt' notice unless you happened to push the right buttons in the right order.
Even iPhone and blackberries, and crappy phones like the Razr would have a long spreadsheet of bugs. If companies were to wait for a bug list of a simple 5 pages the product would never be released.

The two bugs that bother me is yahoo not automatically pulling (yahoo mail works fine to sync manually, but rarely does it automatically) and no facebook notifications... both relatively minor overall seeing as my yahoo mail is strictly personal and not time critical.

btw, I seem to remember Windows XP was released with bugs numbering in the millions

Your points are accurate.

For a while I was really thinking about taking the Droid back and going back to a BB. I was quite simply, enraged, that I had left a platform that not only supported instant Pushed email, but it did it at no extra cost on just about any email/webmail system that you could name (free Yahoo included). As time went on I realized that the overall capabilities of the Droid far outweigh the capabilities of any BB. The browser alone is fantastic when compared to the BB Browser. I finally calmed down, paid the $20 for Yahoo Mail Plus, got it setup on the Droid, and now when I get on the real computer to sort the emails out, I dont have banner ads on the side of my screen.

Now.. I suspect that there is no way to make the Yahoo Mail SMTP server save a copy of my outgoing mail in the Sent folder as the web interface does, so I need to include "Self" as a BCC every time I want to keep a copy of what I sent?

txskeets you da man!!! :)

I executed the instructions you gave at the beginning of the thread and it worked immediately!

This is rather embarrassing for me to say, however I work for Verizon in a corporate retail store, and we were not given this verrry simple workaround for this issue...like everyone else, we were informed that the only way to get Yahoo on the Droid was to get the Yahoo Plus @ $19.99/year for the Yahoo mail to then be forwarded to the user's GMail account...we were never instructed to simply enter the user's email as an IMAP as opposed to a POP3, and add the corresponding incoming and outgoing server info, like what is often needed on SBCGlobal, ATT, and Roadrunner addresses when trying to setup email on the non-PDA devices (that in regards to the incoming/outgoing info, not the IMAP/POP3 part)

...I'm off today but will test this out for the next 24 hours, and if it doesn't cease to work, will be forwarding the info to my entire staff and the data specialist in my district.

Again, thanks!

PS: Where did you get the info to do this, by the way?

instructions works, thanx

yahoo suxx, im going to be permanently switching to my gmail account soon.

Worked 1st time, did not need 2 sign out sign in. 2 days and counting no problems other than pulling emails ie: 1min,5min, 8min,3min and so on...Oh well, at least I'm getting em' :)

muddy00 is correct. The trick is to turn off WiFi so your IP address is from the Verizon network. It won't authenticate if you're using anything else.

You must be on 3G to use Yahoo mail IMAP.

You're welcome! :)

Is there / will there be a solution that works with WiFi? Kind of sucks to not get email when I'm utilizing WiFi.

I've followed the instructions in the thread. Wi/Fi is OFF. All the fields, including username and password, are correct, but I keep getting an incorrect username or password error.

Anyone know of any other tricks to try?

Great instructions on page 3... Got it setup first try... With this alone i am so gratefull that i found this forum!!!!

I had Yahoo Mail Plus and still had problems. Mostly the "username and or password incorrect" error. So, I got fed up and canceled the Plus and switched my email to gmail. It was difficult choice, but it seems to be best. I have had issues with Yahoo in the past and this was the icing on the cake!
