Z06_Mir's battery life trials and tribulations

I think something is seriously wrong with the 3G/4G radios with this phone.

Sitting with Wifi in my apartment, I could potentially get 30-48 hours out of the phone based on the tracking I was doing on Excel. Took it out of Wifi, and the thing starts draining at about 5% every half hour to 45 minutes. There is no reasoning why thats the case unless the software is buggy. I'm not even in a 4G area. Heck, I went over to my friends place the other day where I would get no problems with my Droid and the thing was draining heavily. 3G was popping in and out constantly, even though I was showing upwards of 3 bars of 3G signal.

I turned off all the location information with the phone and it seems to be doing better. Android System used to have the 2nd heaviest drain on my battery, but its now hovering near the bottom. Granted, I'm in Wifi right now, but I'm at 96% battery after being unplugged for 2 and a half hours, with the screen on for 13 minutes. And this is with a stock battery.

I really think the issue is with 3g more than 4g. Today for some reason 4g hasn't been working in my area, and my battery life has gone down from what is normal. Not to mention 3g feels so slow now!

The problem is that if you are on 3G, the phone is always looking for 4G...

If you have 4G, the phone is just trying to keep that signal.

Sigh... my phone seems to be totally jacked up lately.

"Android System" is eating all the battery. The CPU is pegged at 100%.. battery dying in 4 hours. Cant figure out what's running or why. Reboots and battery pulls dont help :(

What do you have running in the background? How often do you have your widgets updating? How often do you have the HTC apps syncing? Do you have your Location Services running?

All of those will cause your Android System to show as eating battery.

When on my first trip with Thunderbolt. Despite the fact that inside of hotels/casinos in Las Vegas I got almost no 4G service, and sometimes not even 3G the battery did pretty damn well. I think I got 24+ hours on a single charge two days in a row with moderate use. I've even turned the brightness up from 0% to around 7%. In bright sunshine I'll go as far as 25%. It's a relief to finally be able to do that. I also found a great brightness widget that allows for instant changing to any %.
Glad to be back in Phoenix though, where I get 4G almost everywhere.

After yesterday with the 4G outage, my battery life improved. I attributed that to the fact that I wasn't browsing the internet with my TBolt... why would I? It was way too sloooooow. But today, I woke up to a pleasant surprise, 4G was backk!

And now, my battery life has doubled, if not trippled with identical use to before. 88% after 2h45m with 21 minutes of screen on time (between 9% and 25% brightness, depending on where I was) with emails, texting and angry birds... amazing. I hope this continues.

Sweet! Have not noticed. I was in a store with no service and it taxed my battery pretty well. I will pay more attention on next full charge.

What's that battery brightness widget you've been using?

Swiftly keyed from my Thunderbolt using DroidForums

I use a widget called brightness level. It is much better than the stock one because you can either use a preset or pick your percentage.
