1.1.1 Sapphire Release and an Anoucement

I'm coming from 1.1 and I was just going to use ROM manager......after reading this should I not go through ROM manager?

Should I wipe data and cache again?

Installed and gmail does nothing but FC?? Also my contacts are there, but the names and information that is auto stored to google does not come up?

The best reason to get 1.1.1 is simply because, unlike with 1.1, the black bar mod theme is officially supported on the ccroms release page. That as well as the new camera .apk in addition to gmail being updated (with the release). Also Google search and voice search weren't included with the release (they're in the market) so updating is no longer a hassle.

Ok, that said, I went to the wiki and dont see the gapps update for 1.1, so my question is this:

running 1.0 (Happily I might add, except for not having my black bar
:( ), then I can install 1.1 over it? (just a cache wipe?)

Do I need to reinstall the gapps 1.0? and then the black bar 1.1?

Unless the gapps have been removed, the .zip should be right under the 1.1.1 update.zip. I installed by first letting just the Rom and kernel boot up then rebooting back into recovery to install gapps. Once installed I boot back up to make sure everything was running smoothly. Lastly, I boot back into recovery to install the theme (black bar).

To whoever was having the voice search icon problem I'm not really sure what to tell you. Upon installing Google search I also did not have the voice search widget option. But as soon as I installed voice search it was on there. Make sure neither Google nor voice search applications are saved to the SD card. That could be what is causing problems.

Go into settings, applications, all, find gmail, and clear data. Then let it resync.

Done and done.. thank you... should have remembered that one from trouble shooting in the past..

No problem. Glad it worked. I'm happy to have the black bar back. I'm quite pleased with everything at the moment.

I was having an issue with the Voice Search bar moving to the top of my screen when I would do a search by typing instead of voice commands. I Downloaded the regular Google Search bar from Market and use that one on my screen instead and all is well. Plus I also just installed the updated Clock from droid-life and now I have the capabilities to set my alarm via voice commands. Just in case anyone is having any of the same issues.

No google maps with gapps?

After installing google maps from market, it won't login. It (google maps) prompts for a new gmail account but won't work with the gmail account I used after installing gapps. Any ideas?

Between versions, do I need to basically resetup the phone every time? When I did the 1.0.0 to 1.1.0, I basically start over. But if that has to be done it seems awfully inconvenient....

I didn't on this one. I simply did a cache wipe at the beginning and end of the updates before rebooting the first time and I was good to go. I've noticed no ill effects.

Unfortunately when dealing with something that isn't stock convenience isn't really the goal. To fix the bugs the updates are necessary and unfortunately much of the time that means having to go through the whole process again. Programs like Titanium backup can be great because you can back up your data and settings so you dont' have to redo all of the customization you may have done to certain apps.

That said...I went from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 without a wipe and things seem pretty stable... just wipe the cache as SamuraiHL mentioned and you should be fine

It really isn't that hard, I'll be wiping cache, flashing the update, reconnect to the computer for mass storage, change the happened file to update, flash, clear cache again, then boot up.

If it runs well, then I'll reboot to spr and flash the black bar.

Its just time consuming. But if you do your rom and gapps in the same spr "session", you can cut it down slightly.

I'll be doing mine tonight, if I have time, and boy I want time!

ClockWork is even faster. No need to rename stuff. Just apply each one in succession and your'e good to go. :D
