1.1.1 Sapphire Release and an Anoucement

Yeah i won't look for an upgrade til the tegra phones start floating around...gaming platform cellphone ftw. For now my Droid is running up to 1ghz and does everything i can ask it to do so i can't see any reason to shop until something really game changing comes along or until people stop doing cool things to the droid

The Droid has been a beast of a phone. I got mine the morning it was out and haven't regretted the purchase once. With the Sapphire rom, well, it's just that much better! LOVE IT! But, I do like the looks of the DX. I admit it. It's a nice phone. But a Tegra based Droid.....that's something to drool over. :D

Yeah I'd fight a whole gaggle of preschoolers for a Tegra based phone.

You can also do

ln -s /data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1.apk /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk

I know that works because I did it. ;)

This SHOULD (in theory), allow any updates through the market to be installed as well, and not break the functionality.

It sure sounds like there are more issue with this than the previous release, at least from reading the these threads....I'll wait for future releases I guess...my 1.1.0 is working pretty good now...

Getting dialer force close loop after reboot with the incognito theme (on the initial Android sign-in screen). Tried flashing twice after full wipes - same result both times.

Not sure if it's a 1.1.1 problem or a theme problem and too tired to sort it out - back to my nandroid backup for the time being.

Exact same thing for me.

Only with the same level of openness of the original Droid, something thats not likely with Moto. :(

yeah it sucks that there isn't a pure stock google experience phone out there for sale. I hope this changes when LTE rolls out. I hate bloatware UI stuff.

Dont hold your breath for it.

Because google has relaxed it's stance on it's OS, the carriers have jumped on individual UI's for their devices plus bloat that they redeem for millions.

For the stock user, you're stuck, for us others, at least we can remove the crud foisted upon us.

Let us hope that at the very least, root can still be achieved on the new devices coming out to continue the countertrend.

Realistically, unitl the (US) public decides that they will pay full price for a phone and not subsidy, then we could shift to where the user is in control of what phone they want/get (carriers not making demands of what is on what phone, etc.), and the carriers job is to do what they should be doing - maintaining the network - phone and data services ONLY.

me too...i have been reading a lot about 1.1.1 being a bit buggy...ill wait till 1.2 comes out...my 1.1.0 is running like carl lewis

Um, to all you who are calling 1.1.1 "buggy" you really don't know what you're talking about. It has the same "issues" that 1.1.0 had. So, if you're happy with 1.1.0, there's really nothing different in 1.1.1. I really get frustrated as a software engineer when people call things "buggy" without anything to back up that claim.

Swype issue

I am a swype beta user. For some reason when I load up 1.1.1 it disables my swype. I uninstall it, then try to reinstall and it says failure to load. Swype is still there but I can use it because it says its registered to another device or some poo. I can use it like a regular keyboard, so I've gone back to 1.0 for now. Anyone have this problem?

FWIW, I just loaded 1.1.1 yesterday, with the 250-1000 lv kernel and it is running just fine (stock). I was running 1.1.0 and it ran beautifully as well. In fact, I've been running every release since 0.7.0 and they have ALL run fine, albeit with a few necessary tweaks along the way supported by an abundance of guidance on these forums. I might try to load a theme today to see if it changes anything but I suspect it will be fine.

I'm eternally perplexed by all of the claims of "bugginess". At first I suspected that it must be clockwork as I did all of my loads via SPR and never had an issue. However, I've done a couple with clockwork via ROM Manager and they have also worked fine.

I feel bad for those who run into issues but, again, fwiw, when you run into something that doesn't seem to work right, don't panic, slow down, do a couple of forum searches to see if there is a known issue and fix, or simply wipe and try again. A couple of nandroid backups should make the process stress-free.

Perhaps I'll just chalk my experience up to being lucky to have one of the rare Sapphire-compatible Moto Droids [please note the sarcasm ;) ]

also, check /data/app for the filename.

yours might be called com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-2.apk, or some other number.

In fact, this should definitely work in that case

ln -s /data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox*.apk /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk

Use this instead of the earlier command I posted.

pdroid you're a genius. I didn't even think of trying ln. I'll definitely be using that in the future.

Most "bugs" perceived in 1.1.1 are user related :)

Or covered in other threads, such as the Google search...

Lastly, you can go from 1.1.0 with a cache wipe ... I have had 0 issues as well as several other members who did the same.
