I rooted my droid via the instructions on this website, will I get the OTA update or will I need to go back to stock?

i think that this will have hidden goodies there not yet tellin us like flash or a droid 2.1 exclusive somthing in there. like the nexus one has certain exclusive nexus one 2.1 stuff.

lol....Here's what I think will happen. People are going to find all kinds of "goodies" - most will be placebo - and for the first few days there will be joy in the Droid Forums. Shortly after that however people will start complaining about bugs - mostly placebo - and there will be great debate as most people won't see these "bugs."

Then about a week and a half later the next rumor for the next OS will come out and people will forget about all the other stuff, accept 2.1 and start talking about the next OS.

Well maybe it will go three weeks this time. We shall see. :)

Being ex-BB Storm owners,we have seen the placebo effect on people many, many times.

I have no idea how this could be tested that way..

No, completely standalone.

I think the Home++ advice was bogus. I read it too, but never took much credence.

Wouldn't this be easy to test?

Load a widget on the default Home screen, and only on the default Home screen.

Set Helix to be the default launcher.

Reboot (just to clear memory). Now see what widgets are in memory. If the one that's only on the default Home screen is in memory, then we have our answer. Right?

They will prob have it in a couple of days. They been playing around with it for weeks so the official version should not be much different. Which is why I said if it is rootable I will install the ota just in case it has the require software changes for flash. Then I will be re-rooting.

Next couple of days for me
1) Wait to see if update can be rooted
2)yes then I install, no then I wont
3) if yes then I will root again.

not having 5 screens is disappointing. All this talk about everyone having good luck with Helix makes me wonder why mine is so slow and laggy, not to mention it kills my battery.

Question on going back to stock before update. Currently running Ult. Droid 7.8. If I install my nandroid backup (of stock 2.01 before I went to my first custom ROM Bugless Beast) will I need to clear my data or can I keep my programs? Suggestions?
Not a big deal really, as I had to re-install after upgrading Ult Droid. Personally, I probably wont go back to stock and update (unless forced to) until I hear if the new 2.1 is worth it. I'm loving me some Ult Droid....

Thanks in advance.

Motorola just confirmed in the comments on their Facebook post that this update only has 3 screens.

With the existence of Helix I'm not sure that's a big deal anyways.

Bummer :icon_evil:. Out of the 2.1 features that were being discussed before the OTA update was announced, more than 3 home screens was the new "feature" I most wanted as it would allow me to re-enable the full screen CalWidget. Previously I used PandaHome for extra screens, but after getting 2.0.1 Panda got really unstable so I was forced to remove it. And for that reason, I am really reluctant to install another "home replacement."

Performance improvements and bug fixes are always great, but the new features announced by Verizon/Motorola are primarily "fluff" for me -- I probably won't use any of them.

And the most important fix I'm waiting for (it would be nice if it is in 2.1) is for display of Gmail messages being truncated when you have multiple messages with the same subject line.
