One of us is confused. I don't see a "moderator" badge on your avatar, so I think it's you.

I was more amused because I looked at the title and what I took from it..

2.1 ESE53 (The one some are already using) will be the Official Release (for everyone , rooted or not) on the VZW Motorola Droid...

So reading the title told me (I happen to be running UD) that the version I have is what is coming out so I can stop being curious if a better version is coming..

this is very good news for those not rooted. 2.1 is an excellent upgrade from 2.0.1.

for rooted users this probably doesn't mean much, but that's the great thing about android platform...we're not at the mercy of the carrier or phone manufacturer when it comes to choosing the flavor os you want.

the Helix Launcher is great. You can select the number of screens from 3 to 7. It is only for 2.1

Actually, there is a version of HelixLauncher for 2.0.1 - works great!

Yep, it works fine. I'm unrooted (for now) and am using 5 screens with Helix.

It is funny how people begged and complain about 2.1 coming out, and now when it's coming out they could either careless or complain about it. Ha can't make anyone happy at all. I for one am happy for the new release.

quick question...when i installed helix, when i would tap the home button, it would give me the option to use helix or stock as my default. I can't play some of the games on helix and want to switch back and forth. How do i get that option again?

If you're bringing up that you already have it all it's BRAGGING and it's not welcome.

I didn't see the sign out front that said rooted phone type peeps not allowed.

I don't have a tattoo. If you show me yours I'm not going to get upset about it. It won't make me want one either. Bragging implies having something someone else can't have.

This thread is a thread. Threads are for making comments. If you are not rooted and have not unlocked your phone to allow untrusted sources and installed various 2.1 apps then this update will get you some cool stuff.

If you're rooted it appears it won't give you more functionality.

I think it's just as fair for someone with a stock phone to say "cool, about time, I'm psyched" as it is for someone with an tweaked phone to say, "wish it had more than what I've already got".

The reason a rooted person doesn't get more is they got it early, that's all. I also think the statement that a rooted phone has these features has been said already. Like Nate, I don't think that was said to offend those with stock phones, folks were just posting their opinion.

Some people drive a car. Others tweak the heck out of them, spend tons of hours modifying them. The same is true of this phone.

To add something new to the mix: Why can't the cousin to the Droid, the Milestone, be rooted? I read it was a key thing. Would that be hardware or software? If it is software and you want to be rooted, I'd be just a tiny bit worried there may be a surprise in this update.

Also, while I have a rooted phone I'm also excited for this release. I think the plan is to eventually get all phones on 2.1 and this will be good for the android community. It would lead to more developer's willing to commit more resources to bigger better apps for us all.....and it paves the way for a possible 2.2 OTA

Doing a mashup of applications/software you didn't write hardly qualifies as "development," yet alone "better."

Go into settings.apps/helix, clear defaults

Search the market for Helix, give it a try as your launcher

I believe you go to settings, applications, click on Helix, then click on restore defaults.
