2.1 still doesn't fix basic bugs

Very disappointing. I'm looking at my call log. I am still having a hard time figuring out who called when because... after at least six months from what I've seen... the bug of "hours ago" and "yesterday" has not been fixed. How simple is this fix guys?

For those of you who don't understand, the phone calls "yesterday" a period of over 24 hours ago from the current time. If it's Tuesday at 1am, "Yesterday" begins Monday at 1am and continues back 24 hours into the day before yesterday - Sunday.

To explain: let's say it's 3am Tuesday, you made a call at 2am Tuesday. You also made a call at 10pm Monday, 7am Monday and at 11pm Sunday. Your phone will say you made a call 1 hour ago (2am) - ok, that works. Then it will say you made a call 5 hours ago (that's ok) which is technically correct even though that is "Yesterday." It will say that the call made at 7am was made "18 hours ago" and the call made on Sunday - two named days ago - was made "yesterday." Calls further back will say "two days ago." So is that Sunday or Saturday? It's impossible to tell. This is so stupid. Just give us the date if you can't get something this simple correct as a proper phone log.
as kramer would say,"you just blew my mind".

That's because I don't really see it as being a "bug". It's by design. A bit confusing and not the optimal design? Perhaps. But it's not a bug.
No offense but this is NOT by design. A five year old knows it's not by design. Nobody on the planet speaks this way, even in Cupertino and Mountainview, where time is different than anywhere else in the country. Two days ago is not "more than 48 hours ago." Today is Tuesday. Yesterday is Monday. Two days ago is Sunday. According to this stupid log Saturday is techincally "two days or what I mean to say is two earth days of 24 hours ago.) Face it. They just didn't bother fixing it because trying to sell this as intended would make anyone even buy an iPhone in an instant.

CallTrack Android App Lists All Calls On A Google Calendar - Calltrack android - Gizmodo
Just found this and posted a new thread, then I found this one again.

This sound like it'll fix your issues...
I own this - it's an awesome app although it doesn't fix the problem. If I want to peruse my calendar and see 34 calls in the span of 3 hours (looks like a big mush) then it works. But that's not what I want. I want to get the running log of calls, just as appears, but it should just show the right day and time properly as call logs do on EVERY OTHER PHONE.

In short, it's 9PM Tuesday night here. Yesterday is Monday. Two days ago is Sunday. A call Sunday night at 11PM is not a call Yesterday. It really bugs me that something this obvious cannot be fixed by Google in a year's time. I'm beginning to worry that Google might be dropping the ball here and coasting.

It's not that they can not fix it. They have, obviously, decided to apply their resources on more important issues. This particular problem may be important to you, but it's very minor to most people.

+1 on the "very minor" comment... I just can't see grumbling about one more click to see the call details... it's a touch screen... easy to get done... hardly burns any calories just moving your finger around to navigate what you need done... and keeps the call-log clean and uncluttered for those of us who don't require detailed info on every call on every screen..

1. THIS IS AN EMBARRASSING ERROR. It's easy to spot since the phone app and log are a commonly used item. Unfortunately I'm finding that this is par for the course with Android, still very much an OS that feels like patchwork

2. If you've got 30+ calls each day to look through, you must be JOKING to say that clicking through to every single call is simple. It's incredibly time consuming.

Just like the very weak 2.1 update, it seems to me that Google might want to show profits to demanding stockholders and perhaps have put the Android Development on "coast" instead of going forward to continue to make serious headway into the iPhone market share. Now's the time to put the pedal to the medal. If you can't fix obvious and simple errors like this one, I'm loathe to say that the OS on the Droid will not change much at all - if again - over the lfie of the device.

My head hurts and the issue has never even crossed my mind.

You evidently haven't really looked at the log. I find that many people here just want to use the phone for games and rarely use the phone portion much for business. For those of us that use it instead of Blackberry, the log being wrong sucks. It makes most people's head hurt trying to figure out which calls came in yesterday, two days ago and three days ago.

I run a crane company here in Hawaii and I cannot even try to guess why you would be clicking on EVERY call that comes in trying to nail down EXACT times on EVERY call... I'm dying to hear that one

The call log is not wrong by the way... it's just a rough estimate list to go by... untill you need to know what time Bob called "exactly"!! Then it's just click,,click...

We do use the call log... we just don't have this need to know the EXACT time of every call all day long... and when we do need one it's right there...

Totally not a problem

If it was?... they already have apps for it in the market

Looking at my call log...it seems to go back hours...till "yesterday"....then 1 day ago to 6 days ago..then shows a date of all the calls after one week ago. I almost never talk on my phone cause when im awake im usually working or its some dumb time of the night/morning so there is nobody awake to talk to lol. So yeah...this is definatly a non issue for me too

I personally use the call log very rarely, but I understand why this would bug you. The Android OS is kinda still in its infancy and Android-based phones may not be entirely geared for businessmen (my biggest complaint is not being able to sync with Outlook, but I'm sure people would scoff at me as easily as they did you for your call log complaint). The nice thing about the Droid is that if you have a problem with it there's usually an app to fix it.

This might be really tough for you to fathom.

I review the rolling log once in the morning and afternoon to see who may have called, calls I've missed and am able to know on ANY phone other than the Droid - AT A GLANCE - whether a call was made or came in on Monday or Tuesday. With this dumb phone "within 48 hours" or "within 72 hours" doesn't tell me anything. So it's Wednesday today and by just rolling through the log I can get a take on important numbers to tag in an instant.

Try moving to a city like New York, Boston or LA, where things move quickly. The log, which is STANDARD on phones for a long, long time, get the day of the week right. EVERY phone.

There is NO APP to fix this efficiently and what is really annoying is that Google has literally thousands of bugs that remain oustanding many months later. So what exactly has changed in 2.1? The lack of updates to the OS are downright embarrassing.

I give you the Blackberry STorm - say what you want, but Blackberry has continuously updated that phone's OS. Same thing with even Palm's WebOS.

Android? They couldn't even get a minor update like 2.1 out properly and what did it do? Add in Google's Goggles? Toss in a few new apps to bundle into the ROM? As enthusiastic as I have been about Android, it makes me wonder whether the OS will feel more refined than just patchwork.

My guess - the Droid will stay like this. They will come out with 2.5 or 3.0 eventually but it will never see the light of day on this phone. I like my phone but it's frustrating...

This only makes your supposed "bug" even more of a non-issue... With this habit, how are you having such a problem with this? If you check your call log twice a day, it's simple: calls that are now there that weren't there the last time you checked are new. Therefore, if you are checking Monday afternoon, any that weren't there Monday morning were sent on Monday. If you're checking Tuesday morning, they were either sent Monday evening or overnight. IF it's too hard for you to remember which are new and which aren't, again as I suggested earlier, there is the simple function to just delete callers from the log as you return their call, thus making it incredibly easy to see whose calls you've returned and whose you have not. And if you're so busy that you can't find time to return "important calls" some time the same day, without your call log reaching out and slapping you in the face to remind you, perhaps you should look in to a less strenuous career.
