4G/3G Outage in the US

3g ok in PHX, but 4g still out. Made the mistake of trying it. If you enable 4g, but it's out, it takes a bit to get 3g back up and running properly after disabling 4g again.

Which does prove one thing. There is a definite software bug that prevent the phone from degrading to 3g gracefully when 4g fails. Switching to 3g is quick if 4g is up, but what's the point of that?

This is totally what I notice also, when 4G goes down and you are not connected to the service you try switching and then you wait and wait for something to happen. Rediculous! 4g LTE is down for 7 hours in Chicago Northern Suburbs, my 3g will only work for me in CDMA only mode which is selected manually. Manually?? really?? Then the 3g is totally unreliable right now and I loose signal every 15 minutes. Really didn't expect this from Verizon, really not happy with the reception in general when the system is up, I loose data connectivity daily and sometime a couple time a day in locations familiar to me with the 3g network that didn't do that with the OG Droid.

I haven't heard about such outages occurring until a month ago. Maybe its because of overload or lots of 4g devices on the system due to an increase in data bandwidth send/received. It would make sense since Verizon probably has a severe increase in its 4g usage due to holiday purchases. Just a thought.

This could be the case, as well as the thousands of people who bought the OG had their contracts come up in the last month or two.

Something interesting I noticed with the signal dBm with just 3G active on the network:

Seems like the device has a fine signal.
Yes yours does. Mine however does not, NEVER seen a signal like that on my device. Right now at -100dBm 1asu and connected to 3g. It will jump sporadically to -107 or -108 then to -120dBm and disconnect. Trying to get reconnected is then a very slow process. Consider yourself very lucky. I have been having daily data disconnections since day one, and I bought this thing on day one of release. Not happy here at all with the 3g capability of this 4g LTE phone and service. Chicago suburbs location. So for 7 hours today my data disconnected about every 20 minutes humm 21 times - about.

Point taken. Just wanted to show those who were having issues that some of us really do have a solid signal.

Just bought a Nexus today, and I can't activate it yet, because there's no 4G in the SF bay area right now. Hope it comes back soon...

I drive people around for a living and rely heavily on my phone's navigation. I haven't been able to hold onto a solid 3G connection all day long. It has been on and off every 15-30 minutes. Not to mention 4G....my 4G connection went out at around 9:30AM and hasn't come back since. Sacramento, CA
