[ROM] [6/18/12] CM9 ICS For the Droid Pro

As much as I shouldn't get my hopes up, I can't help it. After having this phone for almost a year and bouncing around different roms, I finally feel I can settle on ics. Its quick and smooth and once the camera is working I'll be excited about this thing all over again.

Thanks for all the hard work guys, I'll be sure to buy jackpot a case of beer for this build.

I already know the camera will not be mirrored :-) I made a build that had a working preview a few weeks back but would reboot when you tried to take a picture so I never uploaded it

Yeah, but did it take the picture first? :) And yeah, the camera won't be mirrored, you already had the line that kept that from happening. the D2G folks were missing that in their build.prop. I had removed the line to match theirs, but when I put it back, it was fine. It was still pretty buggy, but hopefully that was related to my hacked build and won't be so bad in your real build.

Not sure why I stopped getting notifications from this thread. I didn't even think about it for a while because the 3-4 build works so well (I don't ever use the camera).

Looking forward to the new one, though.

Unfortunately I do use the camera. albeit just for emergency work things where i need to take a picture to show something to someone. I don't use it for pictures I want to keep because the quality is the worst I've had in a phone since my G1. In fact the camera, along with the bootloader issue, is why I probably wouldn't buy another motorola device again. Though, maybe the camera's are better on the higher end phones, not sure.

Yeah, I've never placed the camera high on my list of priorities when choosing a phone, so it doesn't bother me that it sucks. I've probably taken like 7 pictures total with this phone, and maybe 20ish total with any phone I've owned.

My next phone will be whoever can provide an upgraded version of the Pro, hopefully. I'll probably hang onto the Pro for as long as I can, since it doesn't look like anybody is making portrait QWERTY phones.

Yeah, I got it also because I use my phone for work and the keyboard was the only thing I missed from the blackberry. I really suck at the touchscreen keyboards. I do miss the larger screen and better display that my captivate had. I also wish more people made qwerty phones, the DP and it's variants are the only ones I know of. I kinda wish they made it as a qwerty slider (like the palm pre) but with a larger display.

You have no idea how badly I want an Android version of the Dell Venue Pro. I bought one of those for my dad, and it's seriously the perfect phone in terms of hardware. 4.1" screen, a good weight and thickness to it so it fits well in the hand, and a portrait QWERTY slider that has a really good keyboard. Honestly, I'm tempted to just dump Android and go to WP for that phone, even though I'd be giving up so much on the software side.

While we waiting the new build,, sorry if this is out of topic,, can we port windows on our droid pro? such as dualboot android and windows mobile :)
hmmm *just curious

I wouldn't think so, windows isn't open source. Even if someone could hack it, there is really no interest, and considering we barely have any android developers for this device it's unlikely we'll see any other types of development.

Personally I have no interest in windows on our phone and I have no interest in a dual booting a phone. I stopped having dual boot pc's back in the 90s. I have a touchpad that is currently dual boot because thats the way cyanogenmod made that and if I could, I'd completely get rid of webOS (once android is fully working). Last thing I want to do is have to reboot my system to run a different app. I prefer when they do like Blackberry was trying to do and allowing the running of Android apps on top of their OS so apps could run side by side without a reboot.

That Dell Venue Pro that freak4dell mentioned looks really nice if you're interested in a windows portrait qwerty phone. It would be more likely that someone could take a proprietary windows phone and dual boot to android then by taking an android phone and dual booting to windows.

With the current state of affair on Verizon's policy on the locked bootloader... How about definitely, positively no?

We can barely make ICS to run on this phone, not talking about getting another Linux distribution. Windows? Forget about it.

Even if the bootloader was open, it would be a loooooong, long, and as far as I can tell impossible way to make something like Windows to work. Much longer than you could ever imagine with a closed system that has strict hardware requirements like Windows. Think about it, even with Android, with source code everywhere it took *years* and many brilliant people to make ICS barely work on the Droid Pro, given we already had Android 2.3 running perfectly for our reference.

No you can't count the time to market of ICS with my first build or Jackpot as months after the ICS source release. They wouldn't be possible if we don't have brilliant hacks of people like folks like cvpcs and Epsilon3 and bikedude and many more. It took quite a long time from the first release of Moto's locked bootloader to the first release of cvpcs' hijack script that made it all possible to get rid of Motorola's software and load our own's Android distribution into the phone.

Now just imagine the same applies to Windows, only 20 times harder and 20 times less developers that are willing to go with that route.

I've updated the OP with the latest zip

I'm getting a new computer so I figured I'd throw together this zip for you guys that has a working camera. The shutter speeds is much faster than Stock or CM7. The video camera doesn't work yet but the camera works flawlessly for me. I might not be around for the next few days as I get my build environment ready on my new computer so I figured any working zip would be a good one :-)
