Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Hi...so i have a question about the 2.1 update. i rooted my droid the other day and realized it is no better than a regular droid. i was going to unroot until tonight i got the notification about the 2.1 update. i updated to 2.1 thinking it would just write over everything in my phone software wise and i would be back to android and not have the stupid nexus one boot animation stuck on my phone... i was wrong...of course . the things that work with my droid on 2,1 are live wallpapers, pinch to zoom in browser, weather and news widget, gallery has changed, and so has the music player. i dont however have the change in the app drawer or in the added home screens. i still have the three screens and stock 2.0.1 app drawer. is there a way for me to restore my phone to 2.0.1 and unroot so that i can re-update to 2.1 and have ll features. thanks if you can help.

the 3d app drawer and additional screens were an urban legand. No one got them in this update.

I just got the update! but seems like nothing really changed.. Anyway I can make it run real fast for my non rooted phone??

It's your phone. Only you can decide what you feel and think. You're you.

All right, I'm neurotic......I did the manual update and have Helix all setup with 7 home screens (slightly buggy but nothing to cry about). Everything is organized. I must like to torture myself because I'm doing a factory reset and waiting for my OTA (if I didn't miss it) just to see if there's a difference. Curiosity man, what can I say?

As far as i know u cant reset the Firmware. It will just reset your data and apps and such.

Yeah, that was a waste....oh well. If we didn't like to mess with our phones we wouldn't be on this forum anyway.

It wasn't a waste! Downloaded Helix 1st and re-built from there. Much smoother.

Damn not many people have said they got the update tonight. maybe like 10? So glad i updated manually. I probably would've been in the last batch to ever get the update lol.

So i just got the update and im wondering wat should i do to have the best install of this update. So i do a whole clean wipe of the phone or not i herd pol say that its a good idea to? Im just wondering wat i should do and if so how

I got it!..... So, what?

I got the update about 10 minutes ago, but I don't see any change at all. 3 home screens. Same app drawer. Everything seems to be running exactly the way it did 30 mins ago... What is this update for?

Idaho

notice 3d gallery, speech to text, live wallpapers, and pinch to zoom? Are you serious? Notice nothing? have u used ur phone? If you want 7 screens just download Helix in the market? Wow, some people are numb

Really twice as long? :icon_eek:

Yes the battery now lasts about twice as long. Wallpapers don't take up much of any power. Right now the things that are taking the most power are Voice and Display.

And yes the screen is sharper than it was before.

Not sure if it's been brought up already, but has anyone that has done the update notice any diff in battery life???

I have and it seems to be far better as now, towards the end of day, where it would normally be 15-20% i'm now at only 40-50% with the same amount of use...

Just curious if anyone else has noticed the same..

My wife's phone still no OTA update but she only got it a few weeks ago...

I am going to compare mine with hers once she gets the OTA since I manually did it.

I don't expect anything to be different but she's out of town and not using it so why not.
