Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

well, i found out that after i accepted and downloaded the update, my phone would not boot up.

The update does take a while. At one point, I was beginning to think something had gone wrong with mine too, as it seemed to be stuck on the android eye. But I waited patiently and it finally completed.

Sucks that you had a problem, but at least you knew how to fix it, as a LOT of people out there would be clueless.

. . .the live wallpapers although not something I had really cared about are absolutely cool.

Same here. :icon_ banana:

THE Update.

I have to tell you, i got the update Friday morning at about 3AM. Just happened to wake up and saw my phone doing 'weird' things. I'm diggin' this update. Happy Day!!!!

Update installed.

Live wallpapers are cool, and so is the new gallery, but I am very impressed with speech to text.. What a great way to send text messages. Good accuracy (about 94%) when you speak in a clear voice with little background noise. Sent about 20 text messages today using speech to text.

I am going to do a factory reset, just to see if the slight lagginess goes away.

I did the manual update. I agree that the gallery looks nice. Also really like the pinch to zoom on the browser, and the live wallpapers :)

I haven't recieved the update yet. I have been following the forums and the question about doing a factory reset has been asked multiple times. I have not seen any answers to that question. So does anyone know if a factory reset should be done before installing the update or doesn't it matter? (Sorry if someone answered this already, I didn't see it anywhere)

thanks for the response!
I think I will go back to stock for some time. Can I not just accept OTA update? why do I have to go back to stock before I receive the update?
Also are you able to use any themes? I will miss smoked glass :(

I think I read somewhere that SPRecovery will not do the OTA Update - it blocks it. That's why I went back to stock before applying the update.

It's not necessary to do a factory reset either before or after the install. Only do that if you're having issues AFTER the install and you've tried a few other things, like a battery pull first. Very few people are having issues.

This is correct.

From what I've read a lot of the glitches and bugs that are experienced soon after the update are short-lived and work them selves out.

My wifes update is working fantastic. Smooth as butter.....Just wish she appreciated it like I do....

Here's hoping I get mine tonight :icon_ banana:

manual update complete (damn, that was easy once i made a phone call to get my question i asked here, answered).

dont really see any differences other than the gallery looks different. Havent really tried any of the features you guys are talking about. Maybe i'll get some time later to play with it.

Mine was waiting when I got up too. I just updated and it seemed to take forever to get back online and back up and running. The one change I notice is that I can mount to 7 now. I wasn't able to before. I had to use the Win Virtual Machine. Should I be looking for any other major changes? I saw in a few other posts about backing up their data and such...I just did the update with out doing any of that and all my stuff still seems to be intact.
