Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Just got my update this morning in Northern California. I woke up, turned on my Droid and the update notice came on the screen. It took 3 minutes to update from start to finish.
The only thing weird was my swype stopped working and I had to uninstall and re-install it to get it to work again. I need to play around to see what is new but I love the new pinch screen.
Ha I also got mine this morning in North Carolina. That definitely goes to show that it does not roll out regionally. My swype also stopped working. I will have to reinstall it I guess. The live wallpapers are pretty sweet. I see some good potential in them.

It took mine like all night to actually download. I checked it at like 12:45AM and it said it was downloading. After awhile it just stopped and I just clicked the download button again. That was kind of weird. I fell asleep and the update prompt was up when I woke up.

Okay, have the 2.1 update and have a question. I see a lot of posts about the new gallery but none answering my question. When in the multimedia dock and i press photos, I get a slideshow of all of my pictures with pan and zoom. Out of the dock I finally figured out how to get a slideshow of one particular folder, but not more than one. Is there a way from the gallery to get the same slideshow that I get when in the multimedia dock?

just got my update about 45 minutes ago..so far my droid's running a little faster. the live wallpapers are cool and stuff and the new weather/news widget, pinch to zoom on maps...etc.
i want 5 screens and i want a different app drawer (not likely ever but would still be nice).
install only took about 3 minutes though which was somewhat impressive

what i REALLY want is for the Helix Launcher2 to stop force closing on ESE81 (HelixLauncher1 works though)
overall decent update, i wonder if maybe they'll throw in anything unexpected for update2 just to sweeten the deal..probably not but it'd be nice

got my update this morning didn't take long at all. booted up fine.

i read most of this thread but not all of it and i didn't see this mentioned so i will ask forgive me if it was already posted. did 2.1 fix the audio issue with dealing with headphones on and talking with someone and then not being able to hear the next call with headphones off?

Deleting Visual Voicemail and other memory hogs?

1. Is there any way, without rooting, to delete Visual Voicemail, Corporate Calendar, and other apps I never use? These apps start up from time to time, and consume memory, slowing down my phone.

2. Is there any way to have apps get killed off automatically if they somehow startup? This is a backstop if I can't do #1 above.

3. Is there any way to root Android 2.1 on a Motorola Droid, then delete these apps, then "unroot" my phone?

4. If I root my phone, will I still get OTA OS updates?

I am certain these questions have been asked and answered many times on this forum, but I used search and spent the past 30 minutes looking through messages without finding what I was looking for. Please don't flame - feel free to ignore, or to point me at the specific messages that answer my questions, or to actually provide me with help/hope. Thanks!

2.1 Update

Yesterday, my son received the OTA upgrade, but not myself and we were in the same room. I wonder how they pick and choose who gets it first.

We didn't see more home screens or wallpaper....maybe it was just a rumor.

1. No, you must be rooted. No need to worry about them running however. Do a search on Task Killers for more info.

2. Yes, but they do more harm then help because the OS will just spend more resources restarting them. See above.

3. Yes, but why would you want to?

4. As long as you don't turn off OTA updates then you will get them.

By "more...wallpaper" are you talking about the live wallpaper? Because I totally got those. Way cool. Maybe a little gimmicky, but they're entertaining. I looked, and there don't appear to be anymore static wall papers.

As for more home screens: yeah, those got left out. However, if you want more home screens (and who doesn't?) you can download "Helix Launcher" from the market place. It's a "home" replacement for the stock Android's. With it, you can have up to 7 home screens. I've been using it for a while and have had no problems. It's a great app. I think it's much better than the stock program.

WOW, love the update. Disnt really care about the live wallpapers nor the extra home screens. WELL I DO NOW. I want a blank screen to run live wallpaper on. Also battery life is drastically improved.
Way to go MOTO, Verizon and Google
